Composition
- Active Ingredient: Levothyroxine Sodium 75 micrograms (mcg) per tablet
Uses
Eltroxin is used for:
- Management of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland)
- Treatment of thyroid hormone deficiency
- Suppression of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in goiter and certain types of thyroid cancer
Dosage and Administration
- Typical Dosage: Dosage is individualized based on patient’s age, weight, the severity of hypothyroidism, and response to therapy.
- Adults: Common starting dose is 25-50 mcg daily, which may be increased by 25-50 mcg every 2-4 weeks, as needed. Maintenance dose is often 75-150 mcg daily.
- Administration: Take orally, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast.
- Swallow tablet whole with water.
