Description

MONTAIR PLUS TABLET (10 TAB) by CIPLA LTD.

Name: Montair Plus Tablet

Composition: Montair Plus Tablet is a combination medication containing Bambuterol (10 mg) and Montelukast (10 mg).

Uses: This medicine is primarily used for the long-term management and prevention of chronic asthma symptoms, including wheezing and shortness of breath. It is also effective in managing reversible airway obstruction, exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and alleviating symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and a runny nose. Montair Plus Tablet is not intended for the relief of sudden asthma attacks.

Dosage and Administration: Take Montair Plus Tablet orally with or without food, preferably in the evening, or as advised by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, break, or chew it. The dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to the medicine. It is crucial to continue taking this medicine for the recommended duration, even if symptoms improve, and not to stop abruptly.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, skin rash, flu-like symptoms, restlessness, sleep disturbances, palpitations, and muscle cramps. Seek medical attention if these side effects persist or worsen. Rarely, serious side effects such as allergic reactions, and changes in mood or behavior (e.g., agitation, anxiety, suicidal thoughts) may occur.

Precautions:

  • Avoid use if you are allergic to Bambuterol or Montelukast.
  • Exercise caution and consult your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions such as heart problems, diabetes, hypokalemia (low potassium levels), liver or kidney disease, seizures, or neuropsychiatric disorders.
  • Montair Plus Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding; consult your doctor.
  • Alcohol consumption should be limited as it may increase dizziness and the risk of liver damage.
  • Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness or drowsiness.
  • Not recommended for children below 15 years of age due to a lack of established safety and efficacy data.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.

Storage: Store Montair Plus Tablet below 25°C or 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and light, and in its original packaging. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Montair Plus Tablet: Frequently Asked Questions

Montair Plus Tablet is a combination medication primarily used for the management and prevention of respiratory conditions. Here are some frequently asked questions about this medicine:

What is Montair Plus Tablet used for?

Montair Plus Tablet is used for the chronic management of asthma, including the prevention of asthma attacks, and to relieve symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. It is also used to treat bronchospasm and reversible airway obstruction. Additionally, it can help alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and a runny nose.

How does Montair Plus Tablet work?

Montair Plus Tablet contains two active ingredients: Bambuterol and Montelukast. Bambuterol is a bronchodilator that works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widening them, making breathing easier. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the action of leukotrienes, which are chemical messengers released during allergic reactions that cause inflammation, swelling, and constriction of the bronchi in the lungs. By blocking these, Montelukast reduces inflammation and swelling in the airways and nose.

What is the usual dosage of Montair Plus Tablet?

The dosage and duration of Montair Plus Tablet are determined by your doctor, based on your condition and response to the medicine. It is typically taken once a day, preferably in the evening, with or without food. It's important to swallow the tablet whole and not crush, break, or chew it. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or stop taking the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better. This specific combination is generally indicated for patients 15 years of age and older.

What are the possible side effects of Montair Plus Tablet?

Common side effects of Montair Plus Tablet may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, muscle cramps, sleep disturbances, restlessness, flu-like symptoms, fever, cough, stomach pain, pharyngitis, runny nose, and palpitations (faster heartbeats). More serious but rare side effects can include changes in behavior and mood, such as agitation, irritability, anxiety, unusual dreams, or even suicidal thoughts. If you experience any persistent or serious side effects, or unusual mood changes, consult your doctor immediately.

Is Montair Plus Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Montair Plus Tablet is generally not recommended during pregnancy, as Bambuterol may affect the unborn baby. Montelukast may also excrete into breast milk. Therefore, it is advised to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, to discuss the potential risks and benefits.

Can Montair Plus Tablet be taken with other medications?

Montair Plus Tablet can interact with certain medications. For example, lipid-regulating medicines like gemfibrozil can increase the levels of bambuterol. Anti-epileptic medications such as phenobarbital and phenytoin, and anti-tuberculosis medications like rifampin, may decrease the effectiveness of montelukast. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all prescribed and non-prescribed medicines, as well as herbal remedies and supplements you are taking, to avoid potential interactions. Avoid taking NSAIDs (like aspirin or ibuprofen) if they worsen your asthma.

What precautions should be taken?

Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions such as liver or kidney disease, heart problems, diabetes, hypokalemia (low potassium levels), high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), or neuropsychiatric disorders (like seizures or depression), as Montair Plus Tablet should be used with caution in these cases. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase dizziness and the risk of liver damage. This medicine is not intended for use during an acute asthma attack. You should also avoid situations that trigger your asthma, such as vigorous exercise, smoking, pollution, or cold food.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of Montair Plus Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should it be stored?

Montair Plus Tablet should be stored in its original packaging at room temperature, generally below 25°C or 30°C, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children and pets. Do not keep outdated medicine.
