Description

MACBERY JUNIOR EXPECTORANT 60 ML

Macbery Junior Expectorant is a combination medicine manufactured by Macleods Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, primarily used to treat cough associated with mucus and various respiratory conditions.

Composition Each 5ml of the expectorant contains:

  • Levosalbutamol (0.5mg/5ml)
  • Ambroxol (15mg/5ml)
  • Guaifenesin (50mg/5ml)

Uses This medicine is prescribed for conditions involving cough with mucus, such as bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by thinning and loosening phlegm in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, making it easier to cough out. It also helps relax airway muscles, widening them for easier breathing. Additionally, it can alleviate associated symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.

Dosage and Administration Macbery Junior Expectorant should be taken orally with or without food, as advised by a doctor. It is typically administered 2-3 times daily, or as prescribed. Shake the bottle well before each use and use the provided measuring cup for accurate dosing.

Side Effects Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, skin rash, tremor, increased heart rate, palpitations, and muscle cramps. If side effects persist or worsen, medical consultation is advised.

Precautions Inform your doctor if you have allergies to any of its components, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of fits, diabetes, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, stomach ulcers, phenylketonuria, or liver/kidney problems. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may increase drowsiness and dizziness. It's also advisable to avoid large amounts of citrus fruits or juices, as they may interfere with medication absorption.

Storage Store Macbery Junior Expectorant in a cool, dry place, typically below 25°C or 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Macbery Junior Expectorant 60 ml is a combination medicine manufactured by Macleods Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, primarily used to treat cough associated with mucus. It contains Levosalbutamol, Ambroxol, and Guaifenesin as active ingredients.

Here are some frequently asked questions about Macbery Junior Expectorant:

What is Macbery Junior Expectorant used for?

Macbery Junior Expectorant is used to treat cough accompanied by mucus, often associated with conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory tract infections. It helps to thin and clear mucus from the airways and relieve symptoms like chest congestion, wheezing, and breathing difficulties.

How does Macbery Junior Expectorant work?

This medicine combines three active ingredients: Levosalbutamol, Ambroxol, and Guaifenesin. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles and widens the airways in the lungs, making breathing easier. Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, making it easier to cough up. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases the volume of fluid in the airways and reduces the stickiness of mucus, further aiding its removal.

What is the usual dosage for Macbery Junior Expectorant?

The dosage of Macbery Junior Expectorant depends on the patient's age, weight, and the severity of the condition, and should always be as prescribed by a doctor. As a general guideline for children, recommended doses can be 2.5 ml three times a day for children 2 to 6 years, and 5 ml three times a day for children 6 to 12 years. It should be taken orally using a measuring cup or spoon provided with the pack to ensure accurate dosing.

What are the possible side effects of Macbery Junior Expectorant?

Common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, stomach upset, diarrhea, drowsiness, increased heart rate, palpitations, and tremor. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve over time. However, if they persist or worsen, it is advised to consult a doctor.

Is Macbery Junior Expectorant safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

The safety of Macbery Junior Expectorant during pregnancy is generally unknown, and it may be unsafe to use. Limited studies in humans are available, and animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. Similarly, it is unknown whether the medicine is excreted in human milk, so it should be used by breastfeeding mothers only if the doctor determines the benefits outweigh the risks. It is crucial to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding before taking this medicine.

Can Macbery Junior Expectorant be taken with other medications?

Macbery Junior Expectorant can interact with several medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all other medicines being taken, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal preparations. Potential interactions include other bronchodilators (e.g., aminophylline, albuterol), certain antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, doxycycline), corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), medications for allergic reactions (e.g., epinephrine), certain heart and blood pressure medications (e.g., beta-blockers, diuretics, cardiac glycosides), and medications for depression (e.g., tricyclic antidepressants, MAO inhibitors). Avoid combining it with other cough suppressants, as this can lead to mucus buildup.

What precautions should be taken while using Macbery Junior Expectorant?

Exercise caution if you have a history of conditions such as kidney or liver diseases, heart problems (like hypertension, arrhythmias, or myocardial insufficiency), uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, or seizures, as the dosage may need adjustment or the medicine may increase risks. It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so activities requiring mental focus, such as driving, should be avoided until you know how the medicine affects you. It's also recommended to drink plenty of fluids to help loosen mucus.

What happens if a dose of Macbery Junior Expectorant is missed?

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should Macbery Junior Expectorant be stored?

Macbery Junior Expectorant should be stored at a temperature below 30°C. It should be protected from light and moisture and kept out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date.
