Description

Name

  • Brand Name: DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE
  • Common Name: Tamsulosin (as Tamsulosin Hydrochloride)

Composition

  • Each capsule contains Tamsulosin 0.4 mg. It is an alpha-blocker.

Uses DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE is primarily used in adult men to manage the signs and symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. This includes alleviating urinary issues such as:

  • Difficulty in passing urine.
  • Frequent urination, especially at night (nocturia).
  • Urinary urgency.
  • Weak or interrupted urine stream.
  • Incomplete bladder emptying. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder neck, which improves urine flow, but it does not decrease the size of the prostate.

Dosage and Administration The recommended dose for treating BPH symptoms is 0.4 mg once daily.

  • It should be administered approximately 30 minutes following the same meal each day.
  • Capsules should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed, chewed, or opened.
  • If there is an inadequate response after 2 to 4 weeks, the dose may be increased to 0.8 mg once daily, as advised by a doctor.

Side Effects Common side effects may include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Ejaculation disorders (e.g., abnormal ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, decreased libido)
  • Drowsiness
  • Runny or stuffy nose (rhinitis)
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension), particularly orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure upon standing). Rare but serious side effects include prolonged erection (priapism) and severe allergic reactions.

Precautions

  • This medication is intended for male patients only and is not suitable for women or children.
  • Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of low blood pressure, liver, or kidney disease.
  • Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may increase dizziness and other side effects.
  • Patients scheduled for cataract or glaucoma surgery should inform their eye doctor about current or previous use of Tamsulosin, as it can increase the risk of Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
  • Prostate cancer should be ruled out before starting therapy, as BPH symptoms can be similar to those of prostate cancer.
  • Concomitant use with other alpha-blockers or certain blood pressure-lowering medicines may cause a significant drop in blood pressure.

Storage

  • Store in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Maintain storage temperature below 30°C.
Frequently asked questions

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE contains Tamsulosin, an alpha-blocker used primarily to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate, in adult men.

Here are some frequently asked questions about DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE:

What is DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE used for?

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE is used to manage the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlarged prostate in men. These symptoms can include difficulty urinating, a weak urine stream, frequent or urgent need to urinate, especially at night, and incomplete bladder emptying. It helps improve urine flow but does not cure BPH or decrease the size of the prostate gland. It may also be used to facilitate the passing of kidney stones in some cases.

How does DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE work?

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE contains Tamsulosin, an alpha-1 blocker. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate gland, bladder neck, and urethra. This relaxation reduces the pressure on the urethra, allowing urine to flow more easily and relieving the urinary symptoms associated with BPH.

What is the usual dosage of DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE?

The usual recommended dose for adults is one 0.4 mg capsule once daily. It should be taken approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed, or opened. If symptoms do not improve after 2 to 4 weeks, your doctor may increase the dose to 0.8 mg once daily.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects can include dizziness, headache, abnormal ejaculation (such as retrograde ejaculation or decreased semen), fatigue, and a runny or stuffy nose. Other reported side effects include low blood pressure, drowsiness, reduced sex drive, and erection problems. Rare but serious side effects include a prolonged, painful erection (priapism) and severe allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, swelling of the face/throat, difficulty breathing). Inform your doctor if any side effects are severe or persistent.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE (Tamsulosin) is not indicated for use in women and has not been evaluated for safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is insufficient information to determine its safety for a baby during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It may also decrease fertility in men.

Can it be taken with other medications?

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE can interact with other medications. It should not be taken with other alpha-blockers due to an increased risk of low blood pressure. Caution is advised with strong inhibitors of CYP3A4 (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin, paroxetine) or CYP2D6, as these can increase tamsulosin levels in the body. Concomitant use with erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs (like sildenafil, tadalafil) can also lead to very low blood pressure. Always inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, and herbal preparations you are taking.

What precautions should be taken?

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE can cause dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting, especially when standing up from a sitting or lying position. Patients should get up slowly and avoid driving or operating machinery until they know how the medicine affects them. Inform your doctor if you have a history of low blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, or are scheduled for eye surgery (cataract or glaucoma), as tamsulosin can affect pupils during surgery (Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome - IFIS). Alcohol consumption is not recommended as it may increase dizziness.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you stop taking the medicine for several days, consult your doctor before restarting.

How should it be stored?

DYNAPRES 0.4 MG CAPSULE should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, and out of the sight and reach of children. It should generally be stored at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Do not freeze the medication.
