Frequently asked questions
ANCOOL SYR by ZUVENTUS HEALTHCARE LTD.
What is ANCOOL SYR used for?
ANCOOL SYR is primarily used for the symptomatic relief of gastric hyperacidity. It helps manage conditions such as gastritis, peptic ulcer, and esophageal reflux with heartburn. Additionally, it provides relief from indigestion, bloating, gas, and general stomach discomfort.
How does ANCOOL SYR work?
ANCOOL SYR is a combination of four active ingredients:
- Aluminium Hydroxide: This acts as an antacid, neutralizing excess stomach acid and helping to protect the stomach lining from irritation.
- Magnesium Hydroxide: Another antacid, it works by reducing stomach acid levels and can also act as a laxative by increasing water in the intestines.
- Oxetacaine: A local anesthetic, it provides prompt relief from pain and irritation in the gastrointestinal tract due to acidity or ulcers.
- Simethicone: An anti-foaming agent, it helps to break down gas bubbles, allowing for easier expulsion of gas and relieving bloating.
What is the usual dosage for ANCOOL SYR?
For adults, the usual dosage is 5-10 ml, taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as needed. For children over 5 years, the dosage is an appropriate proportion of the adult dose. Children under 5 years should not exceed a maximum of 5ml three times a day. It is generally preferred to take it undiluted. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions for dosage and duration.
What are the possible side effects of ANCOOL SYR?
Common side effects may include diarrhea, stomach pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, constipation, loss of appetite, and dry mouth. Some individuals might experience dizziness, faintness, or drowsiness. In rare cases, an allergic reaction can occur, characterized by a red and lumpy skin rash, swollen eyelids, face, lips, mouth or tongue, itching, and difficulty breathing or swallowing. If any side effects worsen or persist, or if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, consult your doctor immediately.
Is ANCOOL SYR safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
There are limited studies available on the use of ANCOOL SYR during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the fetus, as advised by a doctor. Minimal amounts of its components are expected to be excreted into breast milk. It is crucial to consult your doctor before taking ANCOOL SYR if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Can ANCOOL SYR be taken with other medications?
ANCOOL SYR can interact with other medications, potentially affecting their absorption or effectiveness. It is generally recommended to avoid taking ANCOOL SYR simultaneously with other medicines, especially within a 1-2 hour window. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products. Some medications known to interact include certain antibiotics (like tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), heart medications (e.g., quinidine, digoxin, metoprolol, propranolol), iron preparations, cimetidine, chloroquine, NSAIDs, phenytoin, levothyroxine, and bisphosphonates.
What precautions should be taken while using ANCOOL SYR?
Do not take ANCOOL SYR if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or if you have conditions such as renal failure, partial intestinal obstruction, gastric outlet obstruction, severe constipation, or hypophosphatemia (low phosphate levels). Use with caution if you have kidney or liver disease. Avoid consuming alcohol, spicy or oily foods, tea, coffee, and chocolate, as these can worsen stomach acidity. If the syrup is held in the mouth for an extended period, the oxetacaine content might numb the tongue and affect taste sensation. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid driving or operating machinery.
What happens if a dose of ANCOOL SYR is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed one.
How should ANCOOL SYR be stored?
Store ANCOOL SYR at room temperature, ideally below 25°C, away from direct sunlight, light, and moisture. Always keep the bottle out of reach and sight of children. Ensure the product is used before its expiration date.
