LASMIRAY 50 TAB is a medication manufactured by Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (NEURON) used for the acute treatment of migraine.

  • Name

    • Brand Name: Lasmiray 50mg Tablet
    • Common Name: Lasmiditan
  • Composition Each film-coated tablet contains Lasmiditan Hemisuccinate equivalent to 50 mg Lasmiditan. It also contains excipients such as Microcrystalline cellulose, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Pregelatinized starch, Croscarmellose Sodium, Colloidal silicon dioxide, Magnesium Stearate, and Opadry II White.

  • Uses LASMIRAY 50 TAB is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults. It works to relieve migraine symptoms once they begin and is not intended for the preventive treatment of migraines.

  • Dosage and Administration The recommended dose is one tablet, taken as needed. It can be taken with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet; swallow it whole. Patients should not take more than one dose within 24 hours. If a migraine headache recurs within 24 hours of the initial dose, a second dose of the same strength may be taken, but not within 2 hours of the first dose. A total of no more than 200 mg of Lasmiditan should be taken in 24 hours across all strengths. This medicine is not for daily use or long-term prevention.

  • Side Effects

    • Common: Dizziness, fatigue, paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation), sedation, and sleepiness. These are usually temporary.
    • Serious (rare): Serotonin syndrome (symptoms include agitation, fever, confusion, or muscle stiffness) and severe allergic reactions such as swelling, rash, or hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema.
  • Precautions LASMIRAY 50 TAB may cause sleepiness and dizziness; therefore, it is advised to wait at least 8 hours after taking the medicine before driving or operating machinery. Inform your doctor about any heart problems, as its use is contraindicated in some heart conditions, and regular blood pressure monitoring may be necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before use. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking. Using this medicine for 10 or more days per month may lead to worsening headaches. If a serious hypersensitivity reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately and seek medical help.

  • Storage Store the medicine below 25°C or at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep it out of the reach of children and do not keep outdated medicine.

Frequently asked questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about LASMIRAY 50 TAB:

What is LASMIRAY 50 TAB used for?

LASMIRAY 50 TAB is primarily used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults. It is designed to alleviate migraine symptoms once they begin and is not intended to prevent future migraine episodes.

How does LASMIRAY 50 TAB work?

The active ingredient, Lasmiditan, is a high-affinity, centrally-penetrant 5-hydroxytryptamine 1F (5-HT1F) receptor agonist. Its therapeutic effects in treating migraines are believed to involve agonistic actions at the 5-HT1F receptor, leading to a decrease in neuropeptide release and an inhibition of pain pathways, including those associated with the trigeminal nerve. This action helps improve blood flow in the brain and prevents the abnormal muscle activity that can trigger migraines.

What is the usual dosage for LASMIRAY 50 TAB?

The recommended dosage for adults is 50 mg, 100 mg, or 200 mg per day, taken as needed. It is crucial not to exceed one dose within a 24-hour period. This medicine can be taken with or without food. It is not intended for daily use or for long-term migraine prevention.

What are the possible side effects of LASMIRAY 50 TAB?

Common side effects may include dizziness, fatigue, paresthesia (a tingling or prickling sensation), and sedation. This medication can cause sleepiness, so it is advised not to drive or operate machinery until you understand how it affects you. Serious but rare side effects, such as serotonin syndrome (agitation, fever, confusion, muscle stiffness) or severe allergic reactions (swelling or rash), can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if these serious side effects develop.

Is LASMIRAY 50 TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

LASMIRAY 50 TAB may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. While human studies are limited, animal studies have indicated harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will assess the benefits and potential risks before prescribing it. Information regarding its use during breastfeeding is not available, so it is essential to consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are breastfeeding.

Can LASMIRAY 50 TAB be taken with other medications?

Caution is advised when consuming alcohol or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants due to the potential for increased sedation. Concomitant use with other serotonergic medicinal products (such as SSRIs, SNRIs, or TCAs) may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. Lasmiditan can also lower heart rate, so caution is necessary if you are taking other medications that slow heart rate (e.g., propranolol). However, no significant interaction was observed when co-administered with sumatriptan or topiramate.

What precautions should be taken while using LASMIRAY 50 TAB?

Due to potential CNS effects and driving impairment, you should not drive or engage in activities requiring heightened attention for at least 8 hours after taking each dose. Inform your doctor if you have any heart problems, as the use of LASMIRAY 50 TAB is contraindicated in certain heart conditions, and regular monitoring of blood pressure may be necessary. Use with caution if you have severe kidney or liver disease. Always inform your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking.

What happens if a dose of LASMIRAY 50 TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should LASMIRAY 50 TAB be stored?

Store LASMIRAY 50 TAB below 25°C or 30°C. Keep it at room temperature, away from direct light and moisture. Avoid storing it in the bathroom. Ensure that all medications are kept out of reach of children and pets.
