DOXINAMAC OD Tablet

DOXINAMAC OD Tablet is a fixed-dose combination medication manufactured by Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd..

Composition

Each DOXINAMAC OD Tablet contains Doxylamine Succinate 20mg and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) 20mg.

Uses

DOXINAMAC OD Tablet is primarily used to treat nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy, commonly known as morning sickness. It helps alleviate these symptoms by blocking certain chemical messengers in the body that cause nausea and vomiting. It may also be used for relief of nausea and vomiting in general, and to prevent motion sickness symptoms. Pyridoxine, or Vitamin B6, also helps in controlling nausea and vomiting and provides nutritional support.

It can be taken on an empty stomach for better absorption, preferably at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage. Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about DOXINAMAC OD TAB:

What is DOXINAMAC OD TAB used for?

DOXINAMAC OD TAB is primarily used to treat nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, often referred to as morning sickness. It helps alleviate the feeling of sickness and provides nutritional support to the body.

How does DOXINAMAC OD TAB work?

DOXINAMAC OD TAB is a combination of two active ingredients: Doxylamine Succinate and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6). Doxylamine, an antihistamine, works by blocking certain natural substances in the body that can cause nausea and vomiting. Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) contributes anti-nausea properties and helps address any Vitamin B6 deficiency, which can be a factor in pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting.

What is the usual dosage of DOXINAMAC OD TAB?

The initial dosage typically involves taking two tablets orally at bedtime. If symptoms persist the next day, your doctor may adjust the dose. This could include taking one tablet in the morning and two at bedtime, or in some cases, one tablet in the morning, one in the mid-afternoon, and two at bedtime, for a total of four tablets daily. The tablets should be swallowed whole on an empty stomach with a glass of water, and not crushed, chewed, or split.

What are the possible side effects of DOXINAMAC OD TAB?

Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, blurred vision, tiredness, constipation, abdominal pain, and skin rashes. If any of these side effects become severe or persist, it is important to contact your doctor. Serious allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.

Is DOXINAMAC OD TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

DOXINAMAC OD TAB is considered safe for use during pregnancy when prescribed by a doctor to treat nausea and vomiting. However, it is generally not recommended during breastfeeding because doxylamine can pass into breast milk and may cause drowsiness or irritability in the nursing infant. Always consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding and are advised to take this medicine.

Can DOXINAMAC OD TAB be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, and herbal products you are taking. DOXINAMAC OD TAB should be avoided with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) used for depression. Concurrent use with alcohol or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants (like sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping medicines, or certain cough/cold medicines) is not recommended as it can increase drowsiness and dizziness. Pyridoxine can also reduce the effects of certain medications such as Levodopa, Phenobarb, and Phenytoin.

What precautions should be taken with DOXINAMAC OD TAB?

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking this medicine as it can intensify drowsiness. Due to potential drowsiness and dizziness, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Exercise caution if you have medical conditions such as asthma, glaucoma (increased eye pressure), stomach ulcers, intestinal obstruction, or urinary bladder obstruction, and discuss these with your doctor before taking the medication. This medicine is not recommended for use in children.

What happens if a dose of DOXINAMAC OD TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor.

How should DOXINAMAC OD TAB be stored?

Store DOXINAMAC OD TAB below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the medicine in its original container, tightly closed, and out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
