Description
Bupron DX Tab
Bupron DX Tab is a medication manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., often found under the brand name Bupron DX.
Composition Each tablet of Bupron DX Tab contains a combination of two active ingredients: Bupropion 105 mg and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 45 mg.
Uses Bupron DX Tab is primarily prescribed for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). It helps improve mood, increase energy levels, and reduce core depressive symptoms like persistent sadness and fatigue by altering brain chemistry. Additionally, Bupropion, one of its active ingredients, is also used as an aid for smoking cessation, helping to ease the need to smoke and manage withdrawal signs.
Dosage and Administration Bupron DX Tab should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food; however, if it causes an upset stomach, taking it with food is recommended. For long-acting products, the tablet should be swallowed whole and not chewed, broken, or crushed. To maximize benefits, it's advisable to take the tablet at the same time each day. When used for smoking cessation, it may be started one week before the planned quit date. To avoid sleep problems, it should be taken early in the day, at least 6 hours before bedtime.

Frequently asked questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about BUPRON DX TAB:
What is Bupron DX Tablet used for?
Bupron DX Tablet is primarily used for the treatment of depression. It can also be prescribed to aid in smoking cessation.
How does Bupron DX Tablet work?
Bupron DX Tablet contains two active ingredients: Dextromethorphan hydrobromide and Bupropion. Dextromethorphan works by blocking specific signals in the brain that are often overactive in individuals with depression, helping to calm the brain and improve mood. It also activates certain brain receptors that regulate mood and protect the brain. Bupropion increases the levels of certain chemicals in the brain, specifically dopamine and norepinephrine, which are involved in mood regulation and can improve mood and feelings of well-being. Bupropion also enhances the availability of dextromethorphan by inhibiting its metabolism.
What is the usual dosage for Bupron DX Tablet?
The typical starting dosage for adults is one tablet once daily in the morning. Your doctor may increase the dose to one tablet twice a day, taken at least 8 hours apart, but generally, the dose should not exceed two tablets per day. Each tablet contains 45 mg of dextromethorphan and 105 mg of bupropion. The extended-release tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed, or broken.
What are the common side effects of Bupron DX Tablet?
Common side effects can include dizziness, headache, somnolence (sleepiness), diarrhea, dry mouth, sexual dysfunction, and excessive sweating. These are often mild and may subside as your body adjusts to the medication.
What are the serious side effects and precautions for Bupron DX Tablet?
Serious side effects can include increased blood pressure, rare seizures (the risk increases with dose and predisposing factors), and rare induction of mania. There is also a risk of activation of suicidal ideation and behavior. Precautions include: avoiding alcohol, as it can increase the risk of serious side effects; being cautious when driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness; and informing your doctor about all other medications or supplements you are taking to prevent interactions. It should not be used if you have a history of seizures or eating disorders, or if you are taking certain other medications.
Is Bupron DX Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Bupron DX Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy and is probably unsafe during breastfeeding. It is generally advised to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Bupropion, one of the active ingredients, is found in breast milk.
Can Bupron DX Tablet be taken with other medications?
Yes, Bupron DX Tablet can interact with other medications. It should not be used if you have taken MAO inhibitors (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) within the last 14 days. Caution is also advised when combining it with other medications that lower the seizure threshold or increase serotonin levels, such as certain antidepressants (SSRIs, TCAs) and CNS stimulants. Always inform your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products you are taking.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Bupron DX Tablet?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses to make up for a missed one, as this can increase the risk of side effects, including seizures.
How should Bupron DX Tablet be stored?
Bupron DX Tablet should be stored in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light, and out of the reach of children.
