Description

TIDOMET FORTE TABLET is a medication manufactured by Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd.. It is commonly known by its brand name, Tidomet Forte Tablet.

Composition

Each uncoated Tidomet Forte Tablet contains Levodopa B.P. 250mg and Carbidopa B.P. equivalent to Carbidopa anhydrous 25mg.

Uses

Tidomet Forte Tablet is primarily used to manage the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, a progressive disorder affecting movement due to a deficiency of dopamine in the brain. It effectively reduces symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, muscle spasms, poor muscle control, and slowness of movement. By alleviating these motor symptoms, it aims to improve the patient's ability to perform daily activities and enhance their quality of life.

Dosage and Administration

This medication should be taken orally exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage and frequency are individualized based on the patient's medical condition and response to treatment. It is typically taken with a full glass of water and can be consumed with or without food, though consistency in timing is important for optimal effectiveness. High-protein meals should be avoided as they may impact absorption. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. For Tidomet Forte, a suggested initial dose for patients not previously treated with levodopa is 1 tablet three or four times daily. The dosage may be gradually increased by 1/2 or 1 tablet every day or every other day, up to a maximum of 8 tablets a day.

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, and lightheadedness.
  • Involuntary movements (dyskinesia).
  • Headache, dry mouth, and confusion.
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia) or abnormal dreams.

Less common but serious side effects can include:

  • Uncontrolled movements, muscle stiffness, tremors, and falls.
  • Mental changes, including depression (with or without suicidal tendencies), hallucinations, and psychosis.
  • Heart rhythm disturbances and changes in blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension).
  • Dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), and severe allergic reactions. Tidomet Forte Tablet may also cause sudden sleepiness.

Precautions

Before starting Tidomet Forte Tablet, inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions or other medications you are taking. Caution is advised for patients with severe cardiovascular or pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, renal, hepatic or endocrine diseases, past or current psychosis, and narrow-angle glaucoma. This medication is not recommended for individuals with a known allergy to levodopa or carbidopa. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Due to the potential for dizziness, drowsiness, or sudden sleep, avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Regular monitoring for changes in mood, behavior, and the development of depression or suicidal thoughts is essential. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should consult their doctor before use. Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors must be discontinued at least two weeks prior to initiating therapy. Prolonged intake may increase the risk of nerve damage and lower Vitamin B12 levels.

Storage

Tidomet Forte Tablet should be stored at room temperature, below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep it in its original container, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about TIDOMET FORTE TABLET (10 TABLET) by TORRENT PHARMACEUTICALS LTD, along with concise, accurate answers:

What is TIDOMET FORTE TABLET used for?

TIDOMET FORTE TABLET is primarily used to manage Parkinson's disease and its associated symptoms, such as tremors, muscle rigidity, slow movements, and difficulties with balance and coordination. It also helps manage Parkinson's-like symptoms and movement disorders associated with Parkinsonism.

How does TIDOMET FORTE TABLET work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Levodopa and Carbidopa. Levodopa is a precursor to dopamine, a neurotransmitter deficient in Parkinson's disease. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine in the brain, helping to restore dopamine levels. Carbidopa prevents the premature breakdown of Levodopa in the bloodstream, allowing more Levodopa to reach the brain and enhancing its effectiveness while reducing peripheral side effects.

What is the usual dosage for TIDOMET FORTE TABLET?

The dosage of TIDOMET FORTE TABLET varies significantly based on individual patient needs and the severity of their condition. Typically, treatment may be initiated with 1 tablet three times a day, with gradual increases as needed and tolerated, up to a maximum of 8 tablets per day. It is crucial to adhere strictly to your physician's instructions regarding dosage and frequency.

What are the possible side effects of TIDOMET FORTE TABLET?

Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, dry mouth, insomnia or abnormal dreams, and involuntary movements (dyskinesia). Less common but more serious side effects can include uncontrolled movements, depression, hallucinations, psychosis, changes in blood pressure, and heart rhythm disturbances.

Is TIDOMET FORTE TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

TIDOMET FORTE TABLET is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor after carefully weighing the benefits against potential risks. Caution is advised when breastfeeding, as the medicine may pass into breast milk and could affect the baby. It is best to consult your doctor.

Can TIDOMET FORTE TABLET be taken with other medications?

TIDOMET FORTE TABLET can interact with several medications. For instance, combining it with nonselective Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) can lead to a hypertensive crisis, and MAOIs must be discontinued at least two weeks before starting TIDOMET FORTE TABLET. Antihypertensives and tricyclic antidepressants may also interact. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using TIDOMET FORTE TABLET?

TIDOMET FORTE TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe cardiovascular or pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, renal, hepatic, or endocrine disease, and a history of psychosis. It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or sudden sleep attacks, so activities requiring mental alertness like driving or operating machinery should be approached with caution. Patients should also be monitored for changes in mood, including depression and suicidal tendencies. A high-protein diet may impair the absorption of Levodopa, so it's advisable to avoid taking the tablets with heavy, protein-rich meals.

What happens if a dose of TIDOMET FORTE TABLET is missed?

If you miss a dose of TIDOMET FORTE TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. Consistency in timing is important for the medication to work effectively.

How should TIDOMET FORTE TABLET be stored?

TIDOMET FORTE TABLET should be stored at room temperature, below 30°C, and protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
