Frequently asked questions

1. What is Fungicros Nail Lacquer used for?

Fungicros Nail Lacquer is primarily used to treat fungal infections of the nails, a condition known as onychomycosis. It is effective against various types of fungi, including dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds, which can cause nail discoloration, thickening, and separation from the nail bed.

2. How does Fungicros Nail Lacquer work?

The active ingredient in Fungicros Nail Lacquer is Amorolfine (5%). Amorolfine works by disrupting the production of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This action compromises the integrity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the breakdown and eventual death of the fungus, thereby clearing the infection.

3. What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

Fungicros Nail Lacquer is typically applied once or twice weekly to the affected fingernails or toenails, as directed by your doctor. Before application, the nail should be filed and cleaned with an alcohol swab. The lacquer is then applied evenly over the entire nail surface using the provided applicator brush and allowed to dry for about 3 minutes.

4. What are the possible side effects of Fungicros Nail Lacquer?

Common side effects may include a burning or stinging sensation at the application site, redness, itching, or irritation of the surrounding skin. Some users might also experience discoloration or brittleness of their nails. Rarely, allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, or swelling can occur.

5. Is Fungicros Nail Lacquer safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Caution is advised when using Fungicros Nail Lacquer during pregnancy, and it should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, under a doctor's supervision. For breastfeeding mothers, there is limited data, so it is recommended to consult a doctor before use.

6. Can Fungicros Nail Lacquer be taken with other medications?

There are no significant known interactions with most medications. However, it's advisable to inform your doctor about all ongoing medications, especially if you are using steroidal creams or if you are taking Acenocoumarol, as concurrent use might enhance its anticoagulant activity. No known interactions with alcohol have been found.

7. What precautions should be taken when using this medicine?

Avoid contact of the lacquer with eyes, ears, nose, mouth, open wounds, or infected skin around the nail area. The lacquer is flammable, so keep it away from heat sources and open flames. Do not use nail varnish or artificial nails on treated nails, and avoid sharing nail filers to prevent spreading the infection. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing conditions like diabetes, low immunity, or severe nail damage.

8. What happens if a dose of Fungicros Nail Lacquer is missed?

If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to compensate for a missed one.

9. How should Fungicros Nail Lacquer be stored?

Fungicros Nail Lacquer should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and should not be frozen. Keep the container firmly closed and protect it from direct sunlight and heat. Always ensure the medicine is kept out of reach of children.
