Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions about EASCOF D SYRUP - MIXED FRUIT FLAVOUR SUGAR FREE (100 ML):
1. What is EASCOF D SYRUP used for?
EASCOF D SYRUP is primarily used to relieve symptoms of dry cough, common cold, and allergies. This includes symptoms like runny nose, stuffy nose, sneezing, watery eyes, throat irritation, and congestion.
2. How does EASCOF D SYRUP work?
This syrup contains a combination of three active ingredients: Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine, reducing allergic symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. Phenylephrine acts as a decongestant by shrinking blood vessels in the nasal passages, which helps to relieve stuffiness. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that works by blocking nerve signals from the cough center in the brain, thereby reducing the urge to cough.
3. What is the usual dosage for EASCOF D SYRUP?
The dosage of EASCOF D SYRUP should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. It may vary based on your condition and response to the medicine. For adults and children 12 years of age and older, a common dosage is 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 6 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours. For children 6 to under 12 years, it's typically 1/2 teaspoonful (2.5 mL) every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 3 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours. It is not recommended for children below 12 years of age by some sources. Always use a measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing and do not exceed the recommended dose.
4. What are the possible side effects of EASCOF D SYRUP?
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, vomiting, loss of appetite, and heartburn. If these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor. This medicine can also cause sleepiness, so caution should be exercised when performing tasks requiring mental alertness.
5. Is EASCOF D SYRUP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
It is generally advised to consult your doctor before using EASCOF D SYRUP if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety of this syrup in pregnant women is unknown, and some studies suggest it may be unsafe during pregnancy, potentially causing harm to developing babies. It is also unknown whether the drugs are excreted in human milk, and it is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding due to potential harm to the infant. Your doctor will weigh the benefits against the risks.
6. Can EASCOF D SYRUP be taken with other medications?
EASCOF D SYRUP can interact with certain medications. It should not be taken with or within 14 days of taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), as this can increase side effects. Caution is also advised with beta-blockers, heart medications like digoxin, and certain antidepressants (e.g., fluoxetine or sertraline), as interactions could occur. Always inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal preparations, and supplements you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.
7. What precautions should be taken while using EASCOF D SYRUP?
Due to the possibility of drowsiness or dizziness, avoid activities that require mental alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase drowsiness. Inform your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), liver or kidney diseases, ischemic heart disease, or hyperthyroidism.
8. What happens if a dose of EASCOF D SYRUP is missed?
If you miss a dose of EASCOF D SYRUP, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
9. How should EASCOF D SYRUP be stored?
EASCOF D SYRUP should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. The ideal temperature is generally below 30°C (or between 10°C and 25°C). Keep the bottle tightly closed and ensure it is kept out of the reach and sight of children and pets.
