Description
BRIVEX EYE DROP 5 ML
BRIVEX EYE DROP is a prescription medication used to manage elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. This dual-action eye drop works to protect the optic nerve and preserve vision by reducing fluid pressure inside the eye.
Composition
BRIVEX EYE DROP contains a combination of two active ingredients:
- Brinzolamide (1% w/v): A carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that decreases aqueous humor production.
- Brimonidine Tartrate (0.2% w/v): An alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that reduces aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow. It also contains Benzalkonium Chloride (0.01% w/v) as a preservative.
Uses
BRIVEX EYE DROP is primarily prescribed for:
- Management of open-angle glaucoma
- Control of ocular hypertension

Frequently asked questions
What is BRIVEX EYE DROP used for?
BRIVEX EYE DROP is a prescription medicine primarily used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in individuals with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It can also be used to relieve redness in the eyes caused by minor irritations.
How does BRIVEX EYE DROP work?
BRIVEX EYE DROP is a combination of two active ingredients: Brinzolamide and Brimonidine. Brinzolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, works by reducing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye). Brimonidine, an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, also decreases fluid production and enhances its drainage from the eye. This dual action helps to lower and maintain normal eye pressure.
What is the usual dosage for BRIVEX EYE DROP?
The usual dosage is typically one drop instilled into the affected eye(s) three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose and duration of treatment.
What are the possible side effects of BRIVEX EYE DROP?
Common side effects may include blurred vision, dry eyes, burning sensation, irritation, itching, redness, discomfort, and a bad taste in the mouth. Other less common side effects can include discharge from eyes, double vision, conjunctivitis, eye pain, foreign body sensation, headache, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Most of these effects are temporary and resolve over time. If any side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Is BRIVEX EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy: BRIVEX EYE DROP is generally not recommended during pregnancy as there are limited studies on its safety in pregnant women. It should only be used if the potential benefits justify the potential risks, and only under the strict guidance of your doctor. Breastfeeding: It is not known if BRIVEX EYE DROP passes into breast milk, and therefore, it is generally not recommended for use by breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor to discuss whether you should continue breastfeeding while using this medication.
Can BRIVEX EYE DROP be taken with other medications?
Inform your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements, as some medications can interact with BRIVEX EYE DROP. Caution is advised when used with oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (like acetazolamide), CNS depressants (like diazepam or alprazolam), antihypertensives, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), and certain antidepressants. If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications to avoid dilution.
What precautions should be taken while using BRIVEX EYE DROP?
BRIVEX EYE DROP is for external ophthalmic use only. To prevent contamination, avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as a component (Benzalkonium chloride) can discolor soft contact lenses. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery immediately after use, as it may cause temporary blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness. The medicine is not recommended for children below 2 years of age (some sources state below 18 years). Use with caution if you have severe heart problems, blood cell disorders, bone marrow suppression, depression, liver or kidney problems, Raynaud's phenomenon, orthostatic hypotension, or thromboangiitis obliterans. Do not skip or stop doses without consulting your doctor.
What happens if a dose of BRIVEX EYE DROP is missed?
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
How should BRIVEX EYE DROP be stored?
Store BRIVEX EYE DROP in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. The recommended storage temperature is typically below 25°C or between 10°C to 25°C/15-30°C. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and out of the reach of children. It is generally advised to use the suspension within one month after opening the vial.
