Dosage and Administration: The dosage of CYCLOTIN 10 depends on the patient's condition and response to treatment. It should be taken as prescribed by a doctor, typically once daily, with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. Frequently asked questions
What is CYCLOTIN 10 used for?
CYCLOTIN 10, containing Fluoxetine 10mg, is an antidepressant belonging to the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) class. It is primarily used to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder), and panic disorder. It may also be used for premenstrual dysphoric disorder and, in combination with other drugs, for bipolar disorder and treatment-resistant depression.
How does CYCLOTIN 10 work?
CYCLOTIN 10 works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a natural chemical messenger in the brain. It does this by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin by nerve cells, which helps in regulating mood and alleviating symptoms of depression, anxiety, and obsessive disorders.
What is the usual dosage of CYCLOTIN 10?
The dosage of CYCLOTIN 10 is determined by your doctor based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For major depressive disorder, initial doses may be 10 mg once daily, potentially increasing to 20 mg/day after several weeks if needed. For panic disorder, treatment often begins with 10 mg/day, increasing to 20 mg/day after one week. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions and not to change the dose or stop taking the medicine without their advice.
What are the possible side effects of CYCLOTIN 10?
Common side effects of CYCLOTIN 10 may include insomnia (difficulty sleeping), headache, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, dry mouth, loss of appetite, indigestion, increased sweating, nervousness, yawning, and abnormal dreams. Sexual side effects such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and delayed ejaculation can also occur. More serious, though less common, side effects can include suicidal thoughts, serotonin syndrome (a condition where serotonin builds up in the body), and abnormal bleeding. It is important to consult your doctor if you experience persistent or concerning side effects.
Is CYCLOTIN 10 safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
CYCLOTIN 10 is generally considered unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby, and there are reports of increased risks of birth defects affecting the heart, and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) when taken during the last three months of pregnancy. It is also likely unsafe during breastfeeding as the drug may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the baby. Always consult your doctor for advice if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
Can CYCLOTIN 10 be taken with other medications?
CYCLOTIN 10 can interact with several medications. It should not be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Caution is advised when taken with other antidepressants, tramadol, tetrabenazine, atomoxetine, ondansetron, trazodone, and vortioxetine due to the increased risk of serotonin syndrome or enhanced side effects. While generally considered safe with paracetamol and birth control pills, it is essential to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking to ensure safety and prevent potential interactions.
What precautions should be taken while taking CYCLOTIN 10?
Avoid consuming alcohol while taking CYCLOTIN 10 as it may cause increased dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience dizziness or impaired reactions. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, including epilepsy, mania, glaucoma, diabetes, bleeding disorders, hyponatremia (low sodium levels), or liver and kidney impairment, as these may affect your treatment. It is crucial not to stop taking CYCLOTIN 10 abruptly, as it can lead to withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will advise on how to gradually reduce the dose when needed. Also, monitor for any sudden mood changes or suicidal thoughts and report them to your doctor immediately.
What happens if a dose of CYCLOTIN 10 is missed?
If you miss a dose of CYCLOTIN 10, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should CYCLOTIN 10 be stored?
CYCLOTIN 10 should be stored below 25°C (59° to 86°F), away from the reach and sight of children and pets. Keep it in a well-ventilated room, away from heat and moisture.
