Description

Name

  • Brand Name: PRASITA A CAPSULE
  • Manufacturer: SUN PHARMACEUTICAL IND.LTD.

Composition Each capsule contains a combination of two active ingredients:

  • Aspirin (75 mg)
  • Prasugrel (10 mg)

Uses PRASITA A CAPSULE is an antiplatelet medication primarily used to prevent the formation of blood clots. It is prescribed to:

  • Reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots in stents.
  • Patients who have previously experienced a heart attack, unstable angina, or have undergone procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or stent placement to open blocked arteries.

Dosage and Administration

  • Take PRASITA A CAPSULE exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • It can be taken with or without food; however, if stomach upset occurs, it is advisable to take it with food.
  • Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
  • Typically, it is taken once daily, ideally at the same time each day to maintain consistent medication levels.
  • The usual adult dose is 10 mg once daily, following an initial 60 mg loading dose.
  • For patients aged 75 years or older, or with a low body weight, the daily dose might be reduced to 5 mg.
  • The duration of treatment is usually a minimum of one year or as directed by your physician.

Side Effects Common side effects may include:

  • Headache, dizziness, and swelling (oedema).
  • Skin rash, small red bruises on the skin (ecchymoses), and bruising.
  • Gastrointestinal issues such as indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
  • Increased bleeding tendency, including nosebleeds and bleeding from needle puncture sites. Serious side effects, though less common, can include severe bleeding events or a low platelet count. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience excessive or prolonged bleeding, black tarry stools, blood in urine, or signs of stroke.

Precautions

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to aspirin or prasugrel, or have a history of serious bleeding (e.g., stomach, intestines, brain), severe liver disease, or a stroke/TIA.
  • Consult your doctor if you are over 75 years old, weigh less than 60 kg, have kidney disease, or a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of stomach bleeding.
  • This medicine is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, or while breastfeeding.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, or herbal products you are taking, especially other blood thinners, NSAIDs, antidepressants, or certain diabetes medications, due to potential interactions.
  • Do not stop taking PRASITA A CAPSULE without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation can increase the risk of blood clots, heart attack, or stroke.
  • Exercise caution during activities that may cause cuts or injuries, as this medicine can increase bleeding tendency.

Storage

  • Store PRASITA A CAPSULE at room temperature, ideally below 30°C.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and moisture.
  • Ensure it is kept out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions

What is Prasita A Capsule used for?

Prasita A Capsule is primarily used to prevent the formation of harmful blood clots in blood vessels. It is commonly prescribed for individuals who have experienced an acute coronary syndrome (such as a heart attack or unstable angina), those who have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), or have had cardiac stents placed. This medication helps reduce the risk of future heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular complications.

How does Prasita A Capsule work?

Prasita A Capsule contains two active ingredients: Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and Prasugrel. Aspirin works by inhibiting the production of certain substances (prostaglandins) that contribute to inflammation and pain, and it also reduces the formation of thromboxane A2, which is involved in blood clotting. Prasugrel is an antiplatelet medicine that acts on receptors on the surface of platelets, preventing them from activating and clumping together to form blood clots. This dual action helps ensure smooth blood flow and reduces the risk of clot formation.

What is the usual dosage of Prasita A Capsule?

The dosage of Prasita A Capsule is determined by your doctor based on your specific condition and response to the medication. It is typically taken orally once a day, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels. For adults, a common initial dose might include a loading dose of prasugrel (e.g., 60 mg) followed by a daily maintenance dose of Prasita A Capsule (Prasugrel 10 mg + Aspirin 75 mg). It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions carefully and not to adjust the dose without consulting them.

What are the possible side effects of Prasita A Capsule?

Common side effects of Prasita A Capsule may include increased bleeding tendency (e.g., bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums), stomach pain, nausea, indigestion, headache, dizziness, and skin rash or itching. More serious, though rare, side effects can include severe bleeding (including gastrointestinal bleeding), allergic reactions, and anemia. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects, such as prolonged bleeding, difficulty breathing, or swelling, seek immediate medical attention.

Is Prasita A Capsule safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Prasita A Capsule is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. It is considered unsafe unless prescribed by a doctor in life-threatening situations where the benefits outweigh the potential risks. For breastfeeding women, Prasita A Capsule is probably unsafe, as limited human data suggests the drug may pass into breast milk and harm the baby. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can Prasita A Capsule be taken with other medications?

Prasita A Capsule can interact with several medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all other medicines you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Medications that affect blood clotting, such as other antiplatelet medicines (e.g., clopidogrel, dipyridamole) and anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin), can increase the risk of bleeding when taken with Prasita A. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen can also increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Certain antidepressants, diabetes medications, and some antibiotics may also interact with Prasita A Capsule.

What precautions should be taken?

Several precautions should be taken while using Prasita A Capsule. Due to its antiplatelet effects, there is an increased risk of bleeding. Be cautious during activities that could lead to cuts or injuries, such as shaving or using sharp objects. Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially bleeding disorders, ulcers, or kidney or liver disease. If you need to undergo any surgical or dental procedures, inform your doctor and dentist that you are taking Prasita A Capsule, as it may be necessary to temporarily discontinue the medication.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of Prasita A Capsule, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the chances of developing side effects.

How should it be stored?

Prasita A Capsule should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep it in a dry place, away from heat, light, and moisture. Ensure the capsule is stored in its original packaging to maintain its efficacy and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
