Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB by MACLEODS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD:

What is NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB used for?

NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB is primarily used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. It can also be prescribed for heart-related chest pain (angina) and is considered beneficial for patients with high blood pressure who also have conditions like diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or kidney disease.

How does NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB work?

This medicine is a combination of two active ingredients: Cilnidipine and Telmisartan. Cilnidipine is a calcium channel blocker that works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, which increases blood supply to the heart and lowers blood pressure. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks a natural substance in the body (angiotensin II) responsible for tightening blood vessels, thus allowing blood to flow more smoothly and making the heart more efficient at pumping blood.

What is the usual dosage for NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB?

The usual recommended dose is one tablet once daily. It can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels of the active ingredients. Your doctor will determine the exact dosage based on your medical condition and how you respond to the medicine.

What are the possible side effects of NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB?

Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, ankle swelling (oedema), flushing, nausea, and diarrhoea. Other possible side effects can be a sore back, a congested feeling, a spinning sensation, soreness in the sinus, palpitations, low blood pressure, stomach upset, muscle pain, muscle spasms, and changes in taste. Most side effects are temporary and resolve on their own, but if they persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.

Is NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB is considered unsafe and contraindicated during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, as there is definite evidence of risk and potential harm to the developing baby. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, it is crucial to discuss this with your doctor immediately. For breastfeeding mothers, caution is advised, and the use of this medicine is generally not recommended due to the potential risk to the nursing infant. Always consult your doctor before taking this medicine while breastfeeding.

Can NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB be taken with other medications?

NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB can interact with several other medications. For example, diuretics and other blood pressure-lowering drugs may enhance its effect, potentially leading to excessive blood pressure reduction. Potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics may increase potassium levels in your blood. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen may reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect. It may also interact with lithium, digoxin, ACE inhibitors, and certain antidepressants. It is vital to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.

What precautions should be taken while using NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB?

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase dizziness. You should also be cautious if you have underlying conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver disease, kidney problems, or severe aortic stenosis. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function may be necessary. Do not stop taking the medication abruptly, as this can lead to serious heart-related complications like chest pain or a heart attack; your doctor will gradually lower your dose if discontinuation is necessary. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience dizziness or lightheadedness.

What happens if a dose of NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB be stored?

Store NEXOVAS T 10/80MG TAB at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from moisture and away from direct sunlight. Ensure that all medicines are kept out of reach and sight of children. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date.
