Composition: OXYSPRAY contains Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride (0.05%w/v or 50mcg) as its active ingredient. It is a nasal decongestant.

  • Drug Interactions: Consult your doctor about any other medications you are taking, especially antidepressants (like MAOIs, selegiline, moclobemide, amitriptyline, imipramine) or blood pressure medications (such as beta-blockers, digoxin), as OXYSPRAY can interact with them.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Frequently asked questions

What is OXYSPRAY used for?

OXYSPRAY is used in adults and adolescents (aged 12 years or above) to relieve nasal congestion (blocked nose), symptoms of allergic rhinitis (such as nasal itching, discomfort, and runny nose), and sinusitis (inflammation of nasal passages). It helps clear nasal passages and reduce discomfort caused by colds, allergies, and sinus infections.

How does OXYSPRAY work?

OXYSPRAY contains Oxymetazoline, which is a nasal decongestant. It works by narrowing the blood vessels that supply the nasal passage. This action reduces swelling in the nasal tract and decreases excessive nasal secretions, allowing for clearer airflow through the nostrils.

What is the usual dosage for OXYSPRAY?

Typically, 1-3 doses should be sprayed into each nostril twice daily, or as directed by your physician. It is important not to use OXYSPRAY for more than 7 days without consulting a doctor, as prolonged use can worsen nasal congestion (rebound congestion).

What are the possible side effects of OXYSPRAY?

Common side effects include a dry nose, nose discomfort, headache, nausea, irritation or a burning sensation after application, dry throat, and sneezing. Uncommon side effects may include nosebleeds. In rare cases, severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, leading to difficulty breathing or swallowing, can occur. If these or any severe side effects are experienced, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.

Is OXYSPRAY safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

OXYSPRAY is generally not advised for use during pregnancy as its safety has not been fully established, and it should only be used if recommended by a doctor. For breastfeeding mothers, limited human data suggest it is probably safe and does not pose a significant risk to the baby, but consultation with a doctor is still recommended.

Can OXYSPRAY be taken with other medications?

Caution is advised when using OXYSPRAY with certain medications. These include antidepressants (such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants), blood pressure-controlling medicines (like alpha blockers and beta blockers), medications for Parkinson's disease (e.g., bromocriptine), irregular heart rate (e.g., digoxin), and migraine headaches (e.g., ergotamine). Concomitant use with these medications can increase the risk of hypertension, irregular heartbeat, or decrease the effectiveness of blood pressure medicines. It should not be taken simultaneously with other nasal decongestants like phenylephrine or pseudoephedrine. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.

What precautions should be taken while using OXYSPRAY?

Before using OXYSPRAY, inform your doctor if you have conditions such as diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), glaucoma, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland), heart problems, or chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages. Do not use OXYSPRAY if you are allergic to Oxymetazoline or any of its ingredients. It is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

What happens if a dose of OXYSPRAY is missed?

If you miss a dose of OXYSPRAY, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

How should OXYSPRAY be stored?

OXYSPRAY should be stored at room temperature, typically between 10°C and 30°C, in a cool and dry place. Keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, and ensure it is out of the reach of children and pets.
