LOBATE GN CREAM 15 GM

LOBATE GN CREAM 15 GM is a topical medication manufactured by Abbott Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. It combines a potent corticosteroid with an antibiotic to treat various inflammatory skin conditions that are also affected by bacterial infections.

Composition

LOBATE GN CREAM contains two active ingredients:

  • Clobetasol Propionate (0.05% w/w): A highly potent corticosteroid that helps to reduce inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching by blocking the production of chemical messengers called prostaglandins.
  • Neomycin Sulphate (0.5% w/w): An aminoglycoside antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required for their survival and multiplication.

Uses

LOBATE GN CREAM is primarily used to manage various bacterial skin infections and inflammatory skin conditions. These include:

  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis
  • Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis and conditions like acne vulgaris and rosacea)
  • Other resistant dermatoses with secondary bacterial infections. It helps to relieve symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching, promoting faster healing of irritated and infected skin.

Dosage and Administration

LOBATE GN CREAM is for external use only.

  • The affected area of the skin should be cleaned and dried thoroughly before application.
  • Apply a thin layer of the cream gently onto the affected skin using a fingertip or a clean cotton swab.
  • It is typically applied once or twice daily, or as directed by a doctor.
  • Wash hands before and after applying the medicine to avoid contamination and spread of infection, unless the hands are the area being treated.
  • Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or dressing unless specifically advised by a doctor, as this can increase absorption and the risk of side effects.
  • Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor, even if symptoms improve, to ensure maximum efficacy and prevent the recurrence of the infection.

Side Effects

While generally safe, LOBATE GN CREAM can cause some mild side effects at the application site. Common Side Effects:

  • Burning sensation
  • Irritation
  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Dryness of skin
  • Stinging sensation
  • Skin thinning (atrophy) or visible small red/purple blood vessels (telangiectasia) with prolonged use.

Serious Side Effects (Rare):

  • Allergic reactions such as rashes, swelling, or shortness of breath. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

Precautions

  • Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to Clobetasol, Neomycin, or any other ingredients in the cream.
  • External Use Only: Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, open wounds, or broken skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Specific Skin Conditions: Not recommended for viral skin infections (e.g., herpes, chickenpox), fungal infections, acne vulgaris, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or pruritus without inflammation.
  • Prolonged Use: Avoid using the cream in large amounts or for longer periods than recommended, as this can increase the risk of side effects like skin thinning.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use this medicine only after consulting their doctor. If applied to the breasts, it should be washed off thoroughly before feeding.
  • Children: Use in children should be strictly under medical supervision.
  • Other Medications: Inform your doctor about any other medications, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lobate GN Cream used for?

Lobate GN Cream is a topical medication primarily used to treat bacterial skin infections and inflammatory skin conditions. It is effective in managing conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis, particularly when these conditions are complicated by a bacterial infection. The cream helps to reduce associated symptoms like swelling, redness, and itching.

How does Lobate GN Cream work?

Lobate GN Cream contains two active ingredients: Clobetasol and Neomycin. Clobetasol is a potent corticosteroid that works by blocking the production of chemical messengers called prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing skin redness, swelling, and itching, thereby reducing inflammation. Neomycin is an antibiotic that functions by inhibiting the synthesis of essential proteins required for bacteria to grow and multiply, effectively stopping the bacterial infection.

What is the usual dosage of Lobate GN Cream?

Lobate GN Cream should be applied as a thin layer to the affected skin area 1-2 times daily, or precisely as advised by your doctor. Before application, ensure the affected area is clean and dry. Always wash your hands before and after applying the cream, unless your hands are the area being treated. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dose and duration of use and not to apply it in larger quantities or for longer periods than recommended.

What are the possible side effects of Lobate GN Cream?

Common side effects at the application site include a burning sensation, irritation, itching, redness, and dryness. These reactions are typically mild and often resolve over time. With prolonged use, side effects such as thinning of the skin (skin atrophy), cracking of the skin, or the appearance of small red or purple blood vessels (telangiectasia) may occur. Serious allergic reactions (e.g., rashes, significant swelling, shortness of breath) are rare but require immediate medical attention.

Is Lobate GN Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: There is limited information on the safety of Lobate GN Cream during pregnancy. It is generally not recommended and should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, and only after proper consultation with your doctor. Breastfeeding: It is generally advised for breastfeeding women to use Lobate GN Cream with caution and after consulting their doctor, as the medication may pass into breast milk. If applied to the breasts, it should be thoroughly washed off before nursing to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.

Can Lobate GN Cream be taken with other medications?

Lobate GN Cream is primarily for external use and is less likely to interact with orally taken medications. However, it may interact with other topical medications applied to the same skin area, especially other corticosteroids or immunosuppressants like tacrolimus or cyclosporine, potentially increasing the risk of side effects. Caution is also advised when used concurrently with ritonavir (for HIV) and itraconazole (for fungal infections). Always inform your doctor about all current medications, including other topical preparations, to avoid possible interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using Lobate GN Cream?

Lobate GN Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, nose, open wounds, or broken skin; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply the cream to large areas of skin or for prolonged periods unless specifically directed by your doctor. It should not be used for viral skin infections (like herpes or chickenpox), fungal infections (such as ringworm or athlete's foot), acne, or rosacea. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or dressings unless your doctor advises it. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed.

What happens if a dose of Lobate GN Cream is missed?

If you miss an application of Lobate GN Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

How should Lobate GN Cream be stored?

Lobate GN Cream should be stored at room temperature, typically below 25°C to 30°C. Keep the cream away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture to maintain its efficacy. Ensure the lid is tightly secured after each use and always keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. It should not be frozen.
