Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about ACETOMET SP TAB by ISAKURA HEALTHCARE DIV.

What is ACETOMET SP TAB used for?

ACETOMET SP TAB is a combination medicine used to relieve pain, inflammation, and swelling. It is primarily prescribed for conditions affecting joints and muscles, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, low back pain, and cervical pain. It also helps in managing post-operative pain, pain due to bone or soft tissue injuries, headaches, toothaches, and can reduce fever.

How does ACETOMET SP TAB work?

ACETOMET SP TAB contains three active ingredients: Aceclofenac, Paracetamol (Acetaminophen), and Serratiopeptidase. Aceclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the action of an enzyme called cyclo-oxygenase (COX), which is responsible for causing pain and swelling. Paracetamol acts as an analgesic (pain reducer) and antipyretic (fever reducer), enhancing the pain relief provided by aceclofenac. Serratiopeptidase is an enzyme that helps break down abnormal proteins at the site of inflammation, thins fluids around injured tissue, and promotes faster healing.

What is the usual dosage?

ACETOMET SP TAB should be taken at the dose and duration advised by your doctor. It is typically recommended to take it with food or milk to minimize stomach upset. It's crucial not to exceed the prescribed dosage, as this can lead to severe side effects.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects of ACETOMET SP TAB include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, loss of appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, and increased liver enzymes. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve over time. However, if they persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

ACETOMET SP TAB is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester, unless specifically advised by a doctor after evaluating the benefits and risks. For breastfeeding women, information regarding its use is limited, and it is advised to consult a doctor before taking this medicine as it may pass into human breast milk.

Can it be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor about all other medicines, supplements, or herbals you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions. It should not be taken with other medicines containing paracetamol or aceclofenac without consulting a doctor. Particular care is needed if you are taking anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin), other NSAIDs, medicines for high blood pressure, HIV, or steroidal medicines, as these can increase the risk of adverse effects or reduce the effectiveness of either medication. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice may also interact with the medication.

What precautions should be taken?

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking ACETOMET SP TAB, as it can increase the risk of liver damage. Patients with stomach ulcers, gastric bleeding, severe heart failure, or severe liver or kidney disease should not take this medicine without medical supervision. Caution is advised for those with a history of liver or kidney problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, or bleeding disorders. Prolonged use of the medicine can potentially lead to kidney damage, stomach bleeding, and other serious complications. This medicine may cause dizziness and sleepiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of ACETOMET SP TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should it be stored?

ACETOMET SP TAB should be stored in its original container in a cool and dry place, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. It should not be consumed after its expiration date.
