SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET

Name: Sitaclass D 100/10 Tablet. Manufactured by Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Composition: Each tablet contains Dapagliflozin 10 mg and Sitagliptin 100 mg.

Uses: SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET is primarily prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is used to improve blood sugar control, especially when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. The medicine helps in controlling blood sugar levels and may reduce the risk of serious complications of diabetes such as eyesight loss, kidney damage, nerve damage, and diabetic foot ulcers. It also helps in preventing cardiovascular events like heart attack and heart failure, and is used to treat chronic kidney disease in adults with reduced kidney function.

Dosage and Administration: This medicine should be taken orally once daily, as directed by a physician. It can be taken with or without food, but it is advisable to take it at the same time each day for optimal results. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage or stop the medication without consulting your doctor.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include urinary tract infections, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), upper respiratory tract infections, headache, diarrhea, nausea, common cold, back pain, joint pain, and fungal infections in the genital area. If serious side effects or worsening symptoms occur, medical attention should be sought. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can occur, especially when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or if meals are missed or delayed.

Precautions: SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, severe kidney or liver disease, or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it is generally not recommended in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to potential adverse effects. Alcohol consumption should be limited as it can interfere with effectiveness and affect blood sugar levels. Interactions may occur with diuretics, insulin or insulin secretagogues, oral contraceptives, and certain antibiotics, requiring dose adjustments or careful monitoring. Inform your doctor about any pre-existing conditions or ongoing medications.

Storage: Store SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep it in its original packaging to protect it from light and moisture, and out of the sight and reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

What is SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET used for?

SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET is primarily used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults. It helps control high blood sugar levels, especially when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It can also be used in conjunction with other diabetes medications. This medicine may also help reduce the risk of serious diabetes complications like kidney damage, nerve damage, eyesight loss, heart attack, and heart failure.

How does SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET work?

SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET contains two active ingredients: Dapagliflozin (10 mg) and Sitagliptin (100 mg). Dapagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, works by preventing the kidneys from reabsorbing glucose, leading to excess sugar being removed from the body through urine. Sitagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, increases the body's natural substances (incretins) that stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin when blood sugar levels are high and also decreases the amount of glucose produced by the liver.

What is the usual dosage for SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET?

The usual dosage of SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET is typically once daily, as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but it is recommended to take it at the same time each day for consistency. The specific dose may vary based on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment.

What are the possible side effects of SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET?

Common side effects can include urinary tract infections, nasal congestion, sore throat, upper respiratory tract infections, headaches, back pain, joint pain, diarrhea, and nausea. Some individuals may also experience genital fungal infections. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a possible side effect, particularly when taken with other antidiabetic medications, alcohol, or if meals are delayed or missed. Serious but rare side effects can include lactic acidosis, ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, or allergic reactions, which require prompt medical attention.

Is SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy. One of its active ingredients, dapagliflozin, is contraindicated during the second and third trimesters. It is generally not advised during breastfeeding as the medication may pass into breast milk and potentially cause adverse effects in infants. Always consult your doctor for advice if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Can SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET be taken with other medications?

SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET can be used in combination with other diabetes medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin. However, it can interact with certain medicines. Diuretics (water pills) may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure. Combining it with insulin or insulin secretagogues may increase the risk of low blood sugar, potentially requiring a dose adjustment of these medications. Oral contraceptives and some antibiotics may also affect blood glucose levels and the efficacy of SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET. It is crucial to inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking.

What precautions should be taken while taking SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET?

This medicine is not recommended for individuals with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution is advised for patients with kidney or liver problems, pancreatitis, or gallstones. Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it can interfere with the medicine's effectiveness and affect blood sugar levels. Maintaining good personal hygiene is important to prevent genital fungal and urinary tract infections. It is advisable to carry sugary food or fruit juice to manage potential symptoms of low blood sugar. Do not stop taking the medicine abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this can lead to increased blood sugar levels and serious complications. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is important.

What happens if a dose of SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET is missed?

If you miss a dose of SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET be stored?

SITACLASS D 100/10 TABLET should be stored at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from light and moisture. Ensure the medicine is kept out of the sight and reach of children.
