Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions and their answers regarding MAXTRA TAB by ZUVENTUS HEALTHCARE LTD.

What is MAXTRA TAB used for?

MAXTRA TAB is a combination medication primarily used to relieve symptoms associated with the common cold and allergies. These symptoms can include nasal congestion, runny nose, itching of the throat and nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. It can also help with sinus pressure and sinusitis.

How does MAXTRA TAB work?

MAXTRA TAB contains two active ingredients: Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Phenylephrine Hydrochloride. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. Phenylephrine Hydrochloride is a decongestant that helps to relieve a blocked nose by narrowing the swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages, thereby reducing congestion and excess mucus production.

What is the usual dosage for MAXTRA TAB?

For adults and children 12 years of age and older, the recommended dosage is typically one tablet every 4 to 6 hours. For children aged 6 to under 12 years, half a tablet every 4 to 6 hours may be recommended. It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage, and the tablet should be swallowed whole with water. This medicine is generally not recommended for children below 4 years of age.

What are the possible side effects of MAXTRA TAB?

Common side effects of MAXTRA TAB can include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, headache, blurred vision, loss of appetite, and sleeplessness. Other reported side effects may include nasal irritation, difficult or painful urination, tiredness, depression, irritability, nightmares, confusion in the elderly, and hyperactivity in children. If you experience serious side effects such as difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or a skin rash, seek immediate medical attention.

Is MAXTRA TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

MAXTRA TAB is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is advisable to consult your doctor before using this medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, to assess potential risks and benefits. Chlorphenamine maleate and other antihistamines may inhibit lactation and can be secreted into breast milk.

Can MAXTRA TAB be taken with other medications?

You should inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal remedies, and supplements. MAXTRA TAB should not be taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or within 14 days of stopping them. Concurrent use with other sympathomimetic amines (like other decongestants), alcohol, beta-blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, hypnotics, anxiolytics, digoxin (for heart problems), medicines for high blood pressure, or phenytoin may lead to interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using MAXTRA TAB?

Use MAXTRA TAB with caution if you have certain medical conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), epilepsy, glaucoma (raised eye pressure), or prostate problems (enlarged prostate gland), as well as liver or kidney problems, asthma, bronchitis, or other lung conditions. Alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medicine as it can increase drowsiness and other side effects. Due to potential dizziness or drowsiness, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you.

What happens if a dose of MAXTRA TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose of MAXTRA TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should MAXTRA TAB be stored?

MAXTRA TAB should be stored in its original package at a temperature not exceeding 25°C (some sources suggest below 30°C for other variants). Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from excess moisture and direct sunlight. It is crucial to keep this medicine in a safe place, out of the sight and reach of children, preferably in a locked cupboard.
