Frequently asked questions
REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE (15 CAP) by MEYER ORGANICS PVT. LTD. contains Orlistat, an anti-obesity agent used for weight management.
What is REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE used for?
REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE is used for weight reduction and management of obesity in adults aged 18 years and above. It is prescribed for individuals who are overweight with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more if they have additional risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol. It should be used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet and regular physical exercise.
How does REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE work?
REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE contains Orlistat, which is a lipase inhibitor. It works by attaching to and blocking enzymes in the digestive system called lipases. These enzymes are responsible for breaking down dietary fats into smaller components that can be absorbed by the body. By inhibiting lipases, approximately 25-30% of the fat consumed in meals is not digested or absorbed and is instead excreted from the body through stools. This process helps to reduce calorie intake and promote weight loss.
What is the usual dosage for REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE?
The recommended dosage is one 120 mg capsule, taken three times a day. It should be taken with each main meal that contains fat, either immediately before, during, or up to one hour after the meal. If a meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose of REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE should be skipped.
What are the possible side effects of REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE?
Common side effects include flatulence with or without oily spotting, sudden bowel motions, fatty, oily, or soft stools, stomach pain, fecal incontinence, and runny or liquid stools. Other reported side effects can include headache, anxiety, tiredness, respiratory tract infection, low blood sugar levels, tooth or gum disorders, urinary tract infection, and irregular periods in women.
Serious but less common side effects that require immediate medical attention include severe allergic reactions (such as severe breathing problems, sweating, rash, itching, swollen face, rapid heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, or feeling unwell), liver issues, persistent abdominal pain, or rectal bleeding.
Is REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. There is limited information on its effects during human pregnancy, and it is not known whether it passes into breast milk. Therefore, it is advised to consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Can REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE be taken with other medications?
REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE can interact with certain medications. Inform your doctor if you are taking cyclosporine (used after organ transplant), blood-thinning medicines like warfarin (as it may increase the risk of bleeding), oral contraceptives (its effectiveness may be reduced if you experience severe diarrhea), acarbose (used for diabetes, should not be taken concomitantly), levothyroxine (for hypothyroidism), medicines for epilepsy (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin), medicines for viral infections, or medications for depression, psychiatric disorders, or anxiety. The effect of amiodarone (for irregular heartbeat) may also be decreased.
It is recommended to take a multivitamin supplement containing fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) at bedtime, at least two hours before or after taking REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE, as the medicine can reduce the absorption of these vitamins.
What precautions should be taken while using REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE?
It is crucial to maintain a balanced, low-calorie, and low-fat diet, ensuring that no more than 30% of your daily calories come from fat. Distribute your fat intake evenly across your three main meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Avoid high-fat, fried, or greasy foods. You should also engage in regular physical activity.
Inform your doctor if you have underlying conditions such as cholestasis (blocked bile flow from the liver), chronic malabsorption syndrome, diabetes, or kidney or liver disease. REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE is not recommended for individuals under 18 years of age. If you are diabetic, monitor your blood sugar levels regularly, as weight loss can alter them. If you are taking oral contraceptive pills and experience severe diarrhea, use an additional method of contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy. It's also advisable to limit or avoid alcohol consumption, as it adds extra calories.
What happens if a dose of REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, provided it is less than one hour since your last main meal. If it has been more than one hour since your main meal, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Remember to omit the dose if a meal is missed or contains no fat.
How should REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE be stored?
REESHAPE 120 MG CAPSULE should be stored in a cool and dry place, below 30°C, and protected from light and moisture. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
