Description
FINAST 1 MG TABLET
Name:
- Brand Name: FINAST 1 MG TABLET
- Common Name: Finasteride 1 mg Tablet
Composition: Each film-coated tablet contains:
- Active Ingredient: Finasteride 1 mg
- Inactive Ingredients: Lactose monohydrate, Microcrystalline cellulose, Pregelatinised starch, Lauroyl macrogolglycerides, Sodium starch glycolate (Type A), Magnesium stearate, Opadry complete film coating system 03F34739 Pink. It does not contain gluten, sucrose, tartrazine, or any other azo dyes.
Uses: FINAST 1 MG TABLET is prescribed for men to treat male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia. It works by increasing hair growth on the scalp and preventing further hair loss. This condition involves thinning hair, a receding hairline, and/or balding on the top of the head, caused by a combination of genetics and the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Finasteride lowers DHT levels in the scalp, helping to reverse the balding process.
Dosage and Administration:
- The recommended dosage is one 1 mg tablet taken once daily.
- It can be taken with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush, chew, or break it.
- Daily use for three months or more is generally necessary before increased hair growth or prevention of further hair loss is observed, as hair loss develops over a long period. Continued use is recommended to maintain the benefits.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include:
- Decreased libido (less desire for sex)
- Erectile dysfunction (difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection)
- Abnormal ejaculation or decreased amount of semen released during sex
- Testicular discomfort or pain
Serious, though rare, side effects that require immediate medical attention include:
- Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: swelling of the lips or face, difficulty swallowing or breathing, skin rash, itchiness, hives.
- Breast swelling and/or tenderness
Most side effects are temporary and may resolve with continued treatment or upon discontinuation.
Precautions:
- For Men Only: FINAST 1 MG TABLET is intended for use in men only and is not indicated for women or children.
- Pregnancy Warning: It is highly unsafe for pregnant women due to the potential risk of causing abnormalities of the external genitalia in a male fetus. Pregnant women or women who may potentially be pregnant should not handle crushed or broken tablets, or handle tablets with wet hands, due to the possibility of absorption of finasteride.
- Liver Impairment: Caution is advised for patients with mild to moderate liver impairment.
- Prostate Cancer Screening: Finasteride may affect prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, which are used to screen for prostate cancer. Patients should inform their doctor they are taking finasteride if undergoing PSA testing.
- Blood Donation: Do not donate blood for 6 months after taking the last dose of Finast 1mg Tablet.
- Interactions: FINAST 1 MG TABLET has not been shown to interfere with other medicines. However, it's advisable to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking.
Storage:
- Store in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight, heat, and moisture.
- Keep the tablets in their blister pack until it is time to take them.
- Store below 25°C or between 10°C to 25°C.
- Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Frequently asked questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about FINAST 1 MG TABLET:
What is FINAST 1 MG TABLET used for?
FINAST 1 MG TABLET is primarily used to treat male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia. It helps to increase hair growth on the scalp and prevent further hair loss in men with mild to moderate hair thinning. This medicine is not indicated for use in women or children.
How does FINAST 1 MG TABLET work?
FINAST 1 MG TABLET contains Finasteride, which is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. It works by blocking the body's production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a male hormone that plays a significant role in male pattern baldness by causing hair follicles to shrink. By lowering DHT levels in the scalp, it helps to reverse the balding process and promote hair regrowth.
What is the usual dosage of FINAST 1 MG TABLET?
The typical recommended dosage for treating male pattern hair loss is one 1 mg tablet taken once daily. It can be taken with or without food, ideally at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels in your system. It usually takes at least 3 months to start noticing effects, and continuous use is recommended for maximum benefit.
What are the possible side effects of FINAST 1 MG TABLET?
Common side effects can include decreased sex drive, trouble getting or keeping an erection (erectile dysfunction), ejaculation disorder, and increased breast size or tenderness. Less common but serious side effects can include depression, lumps or pain in the breast area, nipple discharge (which could be signs of male breast cancer), and allergic reactions like rash, itching, hives, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat. If you experience any serious side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
Is FINAST 1 MG TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No, FINAST 1 MG TABLET is strictly contraindicated for use in women, especially those who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Finasteride can cause abnormalities of the external genitalia in a male fetus if a pregnant woman is exposed to it. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not even handle crushed or broken tablets, as the medicine can be absorbed through the skin. It is also not known if finasteride passes into breast milk, and therefore, it should not be used by breastfeeding women.
Can FINAST 1 MG TABLET be taken with other medications?
Finasteride generally has few known clinically significant drug interactions. However, you should inform your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements you are taking. It should not be combined with other 5-alpha reductase inhibitors like dutasteride due to the risk of additive side effects.
What precautions should be taken while using FINAST 1 MG TABLET?
Inform your doctor if you have liver problems, as the drug is processed in the liver, and liver disease could slow its processing. Finasteride can also affect prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test levels, which are used to screen for prostate cancer. Men taking finasteride should report any breast changes, such as lumps, pain, enlargement, or nipple discharge, to their doctor promptly, as these could be signs of male breast cancer.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose, do not take an extra tablet to make up for it. Just take the next tablet as usual at its scheduled time. Missing one dose is unlikely to have a significant impact, but regular missed doses may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment and lead to renewed hair loss.
How should FINAST 1 MG TABLET be stored?
FINAST 1 MG TABLET should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and at a temperature that does not exceed 30°C. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and pets. The tablets are coated, which prevents contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, but crushed or broken tablets should not be handled by pregnant women.
