BIDIN T EYE DROP 5 ML

BIDIN T EYE DROP is an ophthalmic solution manufactured by Ajanta Pharma Limited, used to manage elevated intraocular pressure.

Composition

BIDIN T EYE DROP contains a combination of two active ingredients:

  • Brimonidine Tartrate 0.2% w/v
  • Timolol Maleate 0.5% w/v

Uses

This medicine is primarily prescribed for the reduction of high pressure within the eyes (intraocular pressure) in patients diagnosed with:

  • Open-angle glaucoma: A condition where the optic nerve is damaged due to excessive eye pressure, potentially leading to vision loss.
  • Ocular hypertension: A condition where the pressure inside the eye is higher than normal, which, if untreated, can also lead to vision changes or loss.

It works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye) and increasing its outflow, thereby lowering eye pressure.

Dosage and Administration

BIDIN T EYE DROP is for external ophthalmic use only. The typical adult dosage for glaucoma and ocular hypertension is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, or as directed by a healthcare provider.

  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after application.
  • Tilt the head back slightly, pull down the lower eyelid, and gently squeeze the dropper to instill the medicine into the eye.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
  • Close eyes for 2-3 minutes without blinking or squeezing after instilling the drops.
  • If using other eye drops, maintain an interval of at least 5 minutes between medications.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Conjunctival redness
  • Stinging or burning sensation in the eyes
  • Eye itching
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Fatigue and drowsiness
  • Headache

Serious side effects, though rare, can include severe allergic reactions (dizziness, rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat), chest pain, irregular heart rate, or significant changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

Precautions

  • Allergies: Do not use if allergic to timolol, brimonidine, or any other components of the eye drops.
  • Medical Conditions: Use with caution or avoid in patients with a history of bronchial asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), certain heart diseases (e.g., heart failure, sinus bradycardia), psychiatric diseases, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism. Caution is also advised for patients with liver and kidney problems.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Limited information is available. Generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed by a doctor, as it may pass into breast milk.
  • Children: Not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age.
  • Driving and Operating Machinery: May cause blurring of vision, visual disturbance, fatigue, or drowsiness, so avoid these activities until vision is clear and symptoms resolve.
  • Alcohol: It is recommended to avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it may increase side effects.
  • Contact Lenses: If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before instilling the eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medicines, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as they may interact with BIDIN T EYE DROP. This includes antihypertensives, CNS depressants, certain heart medications, and MAO inhibitors.

Storage

Store BIDIN T EYE DROP at a temperature not exceeding 15°C - 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Ensure to use the medicine within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

Frequently asked questions

What is BIDIN T EYE DROP used for?

BIDIN T EYE DROP is primarily used to reduce high pressure inside the eyes, a condition known as intraocular pressure. It is prescribed for patients with ocular hypertension and glaucoma, including chronic open-angle glaucoma. It may also be used to relieve redness caused by minor eye irritations.

How does BIDIN T EYE DROP work?

This medicine contains a combination of two active ingredients: Brimonidine and Timolol. Brimonidine works by decreasing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye) and increasing its outflow. Timolol, a beta-blocker, also reduces the production of aqueous humor. Together, these actions effectively lower the pressure within your eyes.

What is the usual dosage for BIDIN T EYE DROP?

The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice a day, or as directed by your healthcare provider. It is for external use only. Always follow your doctor's instructions for the correct dose and duration.

What are the possible side effects of BIDIN T EYE DROP?

Common side effects may include blurred vision, dry eyes, a burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, eye redness, itching, and irritation at the application site. Some individuals might also experience sleepiness or decreased alertness. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve over time.

Is BIDIN T EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

BIDIN T EYE DROP is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless your doctor determines it is absolutely necessary, as it may potentially harm the developing fetus. It is also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers because the medicine may pass into breast milk. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Can BIDIN T EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

Bidin T Eye Drop may interact with certain other medications, including antihypertensives (blood pressure-lowering medicines), monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, CNS depressants, and some heart medications (e.g., diltiazem, verapamil, propranolol, digitalis, amiodarone). If you are using other eye medications, maintain an interval of at least 5 minutes between applying different eye drops. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are currently taking.

What precautions should be taken while using BIDIN T EYE DROP?

Avoid using this medicine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. It is not recommended for children below two years of age (some sources suggest below 17 years). Use with caution if you have underlying conditions such as depression, heart disease (e.g., heart failure, slow heart rate, heart block), respiratory problems (like asthma or severe COPD), diabetes, hyperthyroidism, kidney or liver problems, or poor blood circulation. This medication can cause blurred vision or drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until your vision is clear and you feel alert. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. To prevent contamination, do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.

What happens if a dose of BIDIN T EYE DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, do not instill extra drops to make up for the missed application. Continue with your regular dosing schedule.

How should BIDIN T EYE DROP be stored?

BIDIN T EYE DROP should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure the cap is tightly closed when not in use.
