  • Brand Name: VASOSURE 20mg Tablet
  • Manufacturer: Lupin Ltd.
  • Common Name: Sildenafil

Composition

  • Active Ingredient: Sildenafil (20mg)

Uses VASOSURE 20mg Tablet is primarily prescribed for the treatment of:

  • Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH): It helps reduce high blood pressure in the arteries supplying the lungs, improving exercise capacity and slowing down the worsening of the condition.
  • It may also be used in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in men, by increasing blood flow to the penis.

Dosage and Administration

  • Take VASOSURE as advised by your physician.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break it.
  • It can be taken with or without food, but taking it at a fixed time each day is recommended for consistent effect, especially for PAH.
  • For ED, it is typically taken as needed, about 1 hour before sexual activity.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Side Effects

  • Common Side Effects: Headache, flushing (warmth in face/ears/neck), indigestion, diarrhea, muscle or limb pain, blurred vision, and dizziness.
  • Serious Side Effects (consult doctor immediately): Sudden loss of vision or hearing, allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), chest pain, abnormal heartbeat, or a prolonged erection (priapism).

Precautions

  • Contraindications: Do not use VASOSURE if you are allergic to Sildenafil or are taking medicines containing nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin) for chest pain, as this can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. It is also not recommended for patients with severe heart or liver problems, recent stroke or heart attack, or very low blood pressure.
  • Interactions: Avoid alcohol, as it may increase side effects and reduce the medicine's effectiveness. Grapefruit juice should also be avoided.
  • Specific Conditions: Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease, kidney disease, or certain eye conditions.
  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Should only be used if deemed necessary by a physician.
  • Driving: May cause dizziness or blurred vision; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

Storage

  • Do not use past the expiry date.
Frequently asked questions

What is VASOSURE used for?

VASOSURE 20mg Tablet, which contains Sildenafil, is primarily used for the treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) in both adults and children. PAH is a condition characterized by high blood pressure in the blood vessels supplying the lungs. Additionally, VASOSURE Tablet is also used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men.

How does VASOSURE work?

VASOSURE (Sildenafil) is a Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It works by relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs, which reduces the high blood pressure within them. This improves blood supply to the lungs and enhances pulmonary function, lessening the strain on the heart. For erectile dysfunction, it relaxes the blood vessels in the penis, allowing increased blood flow to achieve an erection when sexually stimulated.

What is the usual dosage for VASOSURE?

For Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, VASOSURE 20mg Tablet is typically taken three times a day. For erectile dysfunction, it is used as needed, usually about 30-60 minutes before sexual activity, and generally not more than once in 24 hours. The specific dose and duration of therapy will be determined by your doctor based on your age, body weight, and medical condition.

What are the possible side effects of VASOSURE?

Common side effects of VASOSURE include headache, flushing (a sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck, and trunk), indigestion, dizziness, blurred vision, muscle pain, limb pain, and diarrhea. More serious, but less common, side effects can include sudden loss of vision or hearing, allergic reactions, chest pain, and an erection lasting more than 4 hours. If any severe side effects occur, contact your doctor immediately.

Is VASOSURE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

For pulmonary arterial hypertension, VASOSURE Tablet should only be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women if considered necessary by the physician, with monitoring required. Women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraceptive methods during therapy. For erectile dysfunction, VASOSURE is generally not indicated for use by women.

Can VASOSURE be taken with other medications?

It is crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as VASOSURE can interact with several drugs. It should not be taken with nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate) or amyl nitrites, as this combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Concomitant use with other medicines for PAH (e.g., riociguat, bosentan, iloprost) or alpha-blockers for prostate problems or blood pressure (e.g., silodosin, doxazosin) should be discussed with your doctor. Avoid grapefruit juice while taking VASOSURE as it may increase the risk of side effects.

What precautions should be taken with VASOSURE?

Before taking VASOSURE, inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, or heart problems, eye problems, stomach problems, anemia, or penile deformity. It should be used with caution in elderly patients, especially those with pre-existing heart conditions. Avoid consuming alcohol, as it can increase the risk of side effects like dizziness and low blood pressure. If you experience dizziness or blurred vision, avoid driving or operating machinery.

What happens if a dose of VASOSURE is missed?

If you miss a dose of VASOSURE for pulmonary arterial hypertension, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

How should VASOSURE be stored?

VASOSURE tablets should be stored at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Keep them out of the reach of children and pets.
