Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions About SALICURE 12 OINTMENT

What is SALICURE 12 OINTMENT used for?

SALICURE 12 OINTMENT is primarily used for peeling and shedding the outer layer of the skin. It treats various skin conditions, including acne (pimples), psoriasis, warts, calluses, corns, ichthyoses, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and keratosis palmaris and plantaris. It also helps manage inflammation, reduce redness and swelling, unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells.

How does SALICURE 12 OINTMENT work?

SALICURE 12 OINTMENT contains Salicylic acid (12%) and Urea (10%). Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent that exfoliates the skin, reduces oil production, unplugs blocked pores, and decreases inflammation. Urea acts as a humectant, which helps to hydrate and soften rough or hardened skin, thereby enhancing the penetration of salicylic acid. This combination promotes the shedding of dead skin cells and supports skin renewal.

What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?

SALICURE 12 OINTMENT is for external use only. You should apply a thin layer to the clean, dry affected area once or twice a day, or as advised by your doctor. It is important not to use it in large amounts or for a longer duration than recommended. Avoid contact with eyes, eyelids, lips, mouth, nose, mucous membranes, genitals, cuts, grazes, or open wounds. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

What are the possible side effects of SALICURE 12 OINTMENT?

Common side effects may include dry skin, redness (erythema), burning sensation, skin irritation, skin rash, peeling, and thinning of the skin. If these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Rarely, prolonged use can lead to a toxic condition called salicylism, with symptoms like ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, itching, swelling of the face/tongue/throat, or difficulty breathing.

Is SALICURE 12 OINTMENT safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

During Pregnancy: Consult your doctor before using SALICURE 12 OINTMENT if you are pregnant or planning to conceive. While low-dose topical salicylic acid (2% or less) is generally considered safe, Salicure 12 contains a higher concentration (12%), and high-dose salicylic acid products are not advised during pregnancy.

During Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Topical salicylic acid is generally considered safe during breastfeeding as significant absorption into breast milk is unlikely. However, avoid applying it to areas that may come into direct contact with the infant's skin or where the infant might ingest it.

Can SALICURE 12 OINTMENT be used with other medications?

It is generally advised to avoid using other topical medications, abrasive soaps, cleansers, or alcohol-containing preparations on the same affected area while using SALICURE 12 OINTMENT, unless directed by your doctor. Inform your doctor about all other medications, including vitamins and herbal supplements, you are using to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while using this ointment?

Do not apply SALICURE 12 OINTMENT to broken, irritated, sunburned, or windburned skin. Avoid using it on sensitive areas like the neck without consulting your doctor. This ointment can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors, and avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. SALICURE 12 OINTMENT is flammable; avoid smoking or going near open flames during use. It is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of SALICURE 12 OINTMENT, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should SALICURE 12 OINTMENT be stored?

Store SALICURE 12 OINTMENT in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, typically between 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC. Keep it out of sight and reach of children and pets, and do not freeze the medicine.
