Description
FIBERLACT GRANULES 90 G
Name: Fiberlact Granules
Composition: FIBERLACT GRANULES contain a dual-action formula with two active ingredients:
- Ispaghula Husk (3.5 gm)
- Lactitol Monohydrate (10 gm)
Uses: FIBERLACT GRANULES are primarily used to treat constipation, including chronic idiopathic constipation. This medication works by softening stools and promoting regular bowel movements. It can also help manage symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), such as bloating and irregularity, and may support overall digestive health by providing additional fiber. Furthermore, it may be prescribed for constipation linked to hemorrhoids and fissures.
Dosage and Administration: Take FIBERLACT GRANULES as advised by your doctor. Typically, mix the prescribed amount of granules into a glass of water or milk (approximately 150 ml), stir thoroughly, and consume immediately. It is recommended to take the granules with food, preferably at bedtime, as their effect usually begins 6 to 8 hours after consumption. To prevent potential absorption issues, maintain a gap of at least 2 hours between taking FIBERLACT GRANULES and other medications. Drinking plenty of water is also advised.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include flatulence, abdominal distension (bloating), stomach cramps or discomfort, and loose stools (diarrhea). These side effects are generally temporary and tend to resolve over time. Less common effects can include nausea, headache, or rectal irritation.
Precautions: Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have pre-existing medical conditions. FIBERLACT GRANULES should be used with caution during the first trimester of pregnancy and while breastfeeding, only if clearly necessary. Avoid using this medication if you have known allergies to Ispaghula or Lactitol, appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal lesions, unexplained abdominal pain or bleeding, galactosemia, or faecal impaction. Caution is advised for elderly patients. Do not take other laxatives concurrently without medical advice.
Storage: Store FIBERLACT GRANULES in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and protect from light and moisture. The product should be kept out of the sight and reach of children. Ensure the lid is tightly replaced after each use, and consume the contents within 14 days of opening the container.
Frequently asked questions
FIBERLACT GRANULES 90 G by SUN PHARMACEUTICAL IND.LTD. is a medication primarily used to manage constipation. It contains a combination of ingredients that work together to soften stools and promote regular bowel movements.
What is Fiberlact Granules used for?
Fiberlact Granules are commonly used to treat constipation, particularly chronic idiopathic constipation. It helps relieve symptoms by making stools easier to pass and promoting bowel regularity.
How does Fiberlact Granules work?
This medication is a combination of Lactitol and Ispaghula. Lactitol acts as a cathartic (osmotic laxative) by drawing water into the intestine, which helps to loosen stools. Ispaghula, a bulk-forming laxative, absorbs water and increases stool volume, further softening them and facilitating smooth bowel movements.
What is the usual dosage of Fiberlact Granules?
The typical dosage is 15 grams (one spoonful) once or twice daily, or as advised by your physician. It should be mixed into a glass of water or milk, stirred briskly, and consumed immediately, followed by another glass of water. It can be taken with food, preferably at bedtime, as it may take 6 to 8 hours to show an effect.
What are the possible side effects of Fiberlact Granules?
Common side effects include flatulence (gas), bloating, stomach cramps, abdominal discomfort, and a feeling of fullness. Diarrhea may occur, especially with higher doses. If these symptoms are persistent or concerning, consult your doctor.
Is Fiberlact Granules safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Fiberlact Granules should be used with caution during the first trimester of pregnancy and while breastfeeding, only if clearly necessary and under the advice of a healthcare professional. It is recommended to consult your doctor before taking this medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Can Fiberlact Granules be taken with other medications?
It is important to inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as interactions can occur. Fiberlact Granules may interact with thiazide diuretics, corticosteroids, carbenoxolone, and amphotericin B. It is advised to take Fiberlact Granules at least 2 hours apart from other medicines to avoid interfering with their absorption. Severe interaction with Digoxin is also noted.
What precautions should be taken while using Fiberlact Granules?
Do not use Fiberlact Granules if you have conditions such as appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal lesions, unexplained abdominal pain or bleeding, galactosemia, faecal impaction, or a lack of muscle tone in the colon. Adequate fluid intake is crucial to prevent dehydration. Elderly patients (above 65 years) should consult a doctor before use. Avoid consuming with dairy products or calcium-rich foods as it may reduce the effectiveness of Lactitol Monohydrate.
What happens if a dose of Fiberlact Granules is missed?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
How should Fiberlact Granules be stored?
Fiberlact Granules should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed and out of the reach of children. It is recommended to use the contents within 14 days after opening the container.
Is Fiberlact Granules habit-forming or for long-term use?
Fiberlact Granules are not considered habit-forming. However, prolonged use should be discussed and advised by a healthcare provider. Lifestyle changes, such as a high-fiber diet, adequate fluid intake, and regular physical activity, can enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and support overall bowel health.
