Description
AZIDERM 20% CREAM 15 GM
Name: Aziderm 20% Cream. This product is manufactured by Micro Labs Limited.
Composition: AZIDERM 20% CREAM contains Azelaic Acid 20% w/w as its active ingredient. Other components may include benzoic acid (as a preservative), propylene glycol, cetearyl octanoate, and purified water in a cream base.
Uses: AZIDERM 20% CREAM is primarily used for the treatment of mild to moderate acne (pimples), including acne vulgaris. It works by killing acne-causing bacteria, reducing inflammation, and preventing the formation of blackheads and whiteheads by inhibiting clogged pores. It also helps in treating hyperpigmentation, such as melasma, dark spots, and post-acne marks, by inhibiting melanin production, leading to a more even skin tone. Additionally, it can be beneficial for managing rosacea by reducing facial redness and inflammation.
Dosage and Administration: For external use only. Apply a thin layer of AZIDERM 20% CREAM to the clean, dry affected areas of the skin, typically twice daily, in the morning and evening, or as directed by a physician. For individuals with very sensitive skin, application once daily in the evening may be advised for the first week, gradually increasing to twice daily. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream.
Side Effects: Common side effects include dryness, peeling, a burning sensation, irritation, itching, and redness at the application site. These reactions are usually mild and temporary, subsiding as the skin adjusts to the treatment. Rare but more serious side effects can include allergic reactions (e.g., skin rash, swelling, difficulty breathing) and worsening of asthma. Skin discoloration, especially in darker skin tones, has also been noted.
Precautions:
- AZIDERM 20% CREAM is for external use only.
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, and other mucous membranes. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately and thoroughly with water.
- Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
- Consult a doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Do not apply to windburned, sunburned, or broken skin.
- Inform your doctor if you have asthma, as worsening of the condition has been reported in some cases.
- Avoid using harsh or irritating skin products concurrently.
- Use sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) during the day, as azelaic acid can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight.
- Discontinue use and consult a doctor if severe or persistent irritation occurs.
- Do not use for more than 12 months at any time without medical guidance.
Storage: Store AZIDERM 20% CREAM in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach and sight of children. Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C or below 30°C.
Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions about AZIDERM 20% CREAM 15 GM by MICRO LABS LIMITED:
What is Aziderm 20% Cream used for?
Aziderm 20% Cream is primarily used to treat mild to moderate acne (pimples). It also helps manage conditions like papulopustular rosacea, reducing inflamed pimples, pustules, and facial redness. Some dermatologists may also recommend it for hyperpigmentation (dark spots) and keratosis pilaris.
How does Aziderm 20% Cream work?
This cream contains Azelaic acid, which is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid. It works by inhibiting the growth of acne-causing bacteria (specifically Propionibacterium acnes) and reducing inflammation. Azelaic acid also helps prevent the outer layer of skin from becoming too thick, which can clog pores and lead to blackheads and whiteheads, and promotes skin renewal.
What is the usual dosage and how should it be applied?
Aziderm 20% Cream is for external use only. It should be applied topically to the affected areas of the skin, usually twice daily (morning and evening), or as directed by your doctor. Before application, clean the affected area with a mild cleanser and pat it dry. Apply a thin layer and gently massage it into the skin. If you have very sensitive skin, your doctor might suggest applying it once a day during the first week. Wash your hands thoroughly after each application.
What are the possible side effects of Aziderm 20% Cream?
Common side effects can include dryness, peeling, a burning sensation, itching, redness, and irritation at the application site. These effects are usually temporary and tend to lessen with continued use. If these side effects persist or worsen, you should consult your doctor. In rare cases, skin discoloration, particularly in darker skin tones, and worsening of asthma symptoms have been reported.
Is Aziderm 20% Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
During pregnancy, Aziderm 20% Cream is generally considered safe to use if prescribed by a doctor, as topical absorption is minimal. However, it's recommended to use it with caution and only under medical supervision. For breastfeeding mothers, there is limited information, so caution is advised. It should not be applied to the breast area if breastfeeding, or on large areas of skin for prolonged periods.
Can Aziderm 20% Cream be taken with other medications?
Since Aziderm 20% Cream is applied topically, it is less likely to interact with oral medications. However, it is generally not advisable to use other creams or ointments on the same affected area without consulting your doctor, as this could increase the risk of skin irritation. If you are using other topical acne treatments like retinoids or benzoyl peroxide, consult your doctor about combining them, as they might suggest applying them at different times of the day to minimize irritation.
What precautions should be taken while using Aziderm 20% Cream?
Avoid applying the cream to windburned or sunburned skin, or on open wounds. Do not apply it in or around the eyes, lips, or inside the nose. If accidental contact occurs, rinse the area immediately with plenty of clean water. Avoid harsh products like astringents, shaving creams, or hair removal products on your skin while using Aziderm. It's also advised to avoid tanning booths and sunlamps as the cream can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Inform your doctor if you have asthma, as worsening of symptoms has been reported in rare instances.
What happens if a dose of Aziderm 20% Cream is missed?
If you miss an application of Aziderm 20% Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.
How should Aziderm 20% Cream be stored?
Aziderm 20% Cream should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not use expired medicine and recap the cream immediately after each use.
