Description

ATONIDE CREAM by CURATIO HEALTH CARE (I) PVT. LTD.

Atonide Cream is a topical corticosteroid medication used to alleviate the inflammatory and pruritic symptoms associated with various skin conditions. It is manufactured by Curatio Health Care (I) Pvt. Ltd..

  • Composition Atonide Cream contains Desonide 0.05% w/w as its active ingredient. Desonide is a synthetic corticosteroid that works by inhibiting the production of certain chemical substances in the body, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which cause allergy and inflammation (swelling and redness). This action helps to reduce swelling, redness, and itching in the affected area.

  • Uses Atonide Cream is primarily prescribed for the treatment of mild to moderate inflammatory skin disorders, including:

    • Atopic dermatitis (eczema)
    • Seborrheic dermatitis
    • Contact dermatitis
    • Skin rashes, irritation, and inflammation It is also used to relieve itching and inflammation associated with these conditions and can help soothe insect bites and minor skin irritations.
  • Dosage and Administration Atonide Cream is for external use only. It should be applied to the affected area as a thin film, usually once or twice daily, or as directed by a doctor. The affected skin area should be cleaned and dried before application, and the cream should be gently massaged in until absorbed. Hands should be washed before and after applying the cream, unless the hands are the area being treated. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or nose; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not use Atonide Cream for more than 4 weeks unless prescribed by a doctor.

  • Side Effects Common side effects may include:

    • Skin peeling, dryness, burning sensation, irritation, stinging sensation, itching, and redness at the site of application
    • Acne-like rash or pimples
    • Small white or red bumps on the skin
    • Skin discoloration (hypopigmentation)

Serious side effects, particularly with prolonged or high-dose use, can include hormonal changes such as Cushing's syndrome (characterized by a round puffy face, weight gain, and tiredness). Other potential serious effects include skin thinning, stretch marks, and increased susceptibility to infections.

  • Precautions

    • Do not use Atonide Cream if allergic to Desonide or any other topical steroids.
    • Consult a doctor if the skin condition does not improve after four weeks.
    • Inform your doctor if you have heart, kidney, or liver problems.
    • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use this cream with caution and only if necessary, under medical supervision. It should not be applied to the breast or nipple if breastfeeding.
    • Not recommended for children under 2 years of age; use with caution in children above 2 years under doctor's guidance.
    • Avoid using on open wounds, damaged skin, or in the presence of untreated skin infections.
    • Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings (e.g., bandages) unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Storage Store Atonide Cream in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat, typically between 10ºC to 30ºC. Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Frequently asked questions

What is Atonide Cream used for?

Atonide Cream is a topical corticosteroid primarily used to treat various skin conditions characterized by inflammation and itching. It is effective in managing mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema), seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, skin rashes, skin irritation, and general skin inflammation. The cream helps to relieve symptoms such as itching, dryness, redness, and irritation.

How does Atonide Cream work?

Atonide Cream contains Desonide 0.05% w/w, which is a synthetic corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation, itching, and redness in the affected skin area. Desonide functions by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers, like prostaglandins, that cause inflammation, swelling, and itching. This action helps to control excessive immune responses in the skin, alleviating dermatological symptoms and promoting healing.

What is the usual dosage of Atonide Cream?

Atonide Cream is for external use only. It should be applied as a thin layer to the affected skin area, usually once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Gently rub the cream into the skin until it is absorbed. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application, unless your hands are the treated area. The duration of treatment is typically short-term, and it's generally recommended not to exceed four consecutive weeks unless advised by a doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Atonide Cream?

Common side effects of Atonide Cream may include a burning or stinging sensation, irritation, itching, redness, and dryness at the application site. Other possible side effects can include skin thinning, acne or pimples, and rash. These side effects are often temporary and usually resolve over time. If any side effects worsen or persist, it is advisable to consult your doctor promptly.

Is Atonide Cream safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Atonide Cream should be used with caution during pregnancy. While there are limited human studies, animal studies have indicated potential harmful effects on the developing baby. Therefore, pregnant women should consult their doctor before using this cream, who will weigh the benefits against potential risks.

During breastfeeding, Atonide Cream is probably safe to use, especially if prescribed by a doctor, as limited human data suggests no significant risk to the baby. However, it is recommended to consult your doctor and avoid applying the cream directly to the breasts to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.

Can Atonide Cream be taken with other medications?

There are no known drug-drug interactions specifically listed for Atonide Cream with other medications. However, caution is advised with concomitant use of other topical corticosteroids or drugs that suppress the immune system. Additionally, if you are diabetic, inform your doctor as the desonide in the cream may be absorbed into the body and could potentially increase blood sugar levels by affecting insulin action. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking before starting treatment with Atonide Cream.

What precautions should be taken with Atonide Cream?

Atonide Cream should not be used on broken or infected skin without a doctor's guidance. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth, and rinse thoroughly with water in case of accidental contact. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings like bandages unless specifically instructed by your doctor, as this can increase the risk of side effects. Long-term use of Atonide Cream should be avoided, and the treatment period should generally not exceed four weeks to prevent potential side effects associated with prolonged corticosteroid use. If your skin condition does not improve after a few weeks, consult your doctor.

What happens if a dose of Atonide Cream is missed?

If you miss a dose of Atonide Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for the missed one.

How should Atonide Cream be stored?

Atonide Cream should be stored at room temperature, ideally between 10-30°C, in a dry place. Keep it away from heat, direct sunlight, and moisture. Ensure the tube is tightly closed when not in use and keep it out of the reach of children. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date.

Can I use Atonide Cream on my face?

While Atonide Cream is generally considered safe for use on the face, it is advisable to consult your dermatologist before applying it to sensitive areas like the face. Facial skin can be more sensitive, and improper use of corticosteroids can lead to adverse effects. Your doctor can provide specific guidance for facial application.
