Frequently asked questions

NEUGABA MN TAB contains two active ingredients: Gabapentin and Methylcobalamin. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that also treats nerve pain, while Methylcobalamin is a form of Vitamin B12 important for nerve health and red blood cell production.

Here are some frequently asked questions about NEUGABA MN TAB:

What is NEUGABA MN TAB used for?

NEUGABA MN TAB is primarily used to treat neuropathic pain, which is nerve pain caused by damaged nerves. This can include pain from conditions like postherpetic neuralgia (pain after shingles) and diabetic neuropathy. It may also be used as an add-on therapy to help control certain types of partial seizures in epilepsy. Additionally, the Methylcobalamin component addresses Vitamin B12 deficiency, which can contribute to nerve problems and anemia.

How does NEUGABA MN TAB work?

Gabapentin, a structural analog of GABA, is thought to work by binding to a specific site on voltage-gated calcium channels in the brain and spinal cord, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters. This action helps to calm overactive nerves, thereby reducing pain signals and preventing seizures. Methylcobalamin is an activated form of Vitamin B12 that helps in the production of myelin, a substance that covers and protects nerve fibers. It also plays a crucial role in nerve regeneration and improving nerve health, as well as in the formation of red blood cells.

What is the usual dosage of NEUGABA MN TAB?

The dosage of NEUGABA MN TAB is highly individualized and determined by a doctor based on the patient's condition, age, and response to treatment. For conditions like postherpetic neuralgia or epilepsy, a doctor will typically start with a low dose of Gabapentin and gradually increase it. Methylcobalamin dosages vary but are often included in combination tablets to supplement Vitamin B12. It's crucial to follow your doctor's instructions exactly and not to adjust the dose without consultation.

What are the possible side effects of NEUGABA MN TAB?

Common side effects of Gabapentin can include dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, unsteadiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and unusual eye movements. Methylcobalamin is generally well-tolerated, but common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and loss of appetite. More serious, but rare, side effects of Gabapentin can include severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, swelling of the face/throat, difficulty breathing), mood or behavioral changes (including suicidal thoughts), and respiratory depression, especially when taken with other CNS depressants. If you experience any severe or concerning side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

Is NEUGABA MN TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Gabapentin is generally not recommended during pregnancy as there is not enough information to definitively say it's safe for the baby, though small studies have not shown an increased risk of birth defects. It should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Women taking gabapentin who are pregnant or trying to conceive are often advised to take a higher dose of folic acid. Gabapentin passes into breast milk in small amounts, but it has not been known to cause significant side effects in breastfed infants. However, infants should be monitored for drowsiness or poor feeding. For Methylcobalamin, consult a healthcare provider to weigh the benefits and risks during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Always discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Can NEUGABA MN TAB be taken with other medications?

Gabapentin can interact with several medications, especially those that also cause drowsiness or slow down brain activity. These include opioids, benzodiazepines, antihistamines, and alcohol, which can increase the risk of severe sleepiness and breathing problems. Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium can decrease the absorption of Gabapentin, so it's advised to take Gabapentin at least two hours after taking these antacids. Methylcobalamin may interact with certain medications like metformin, proton pump inhibitors, and some antibiotics, which can affect its absorption or efficacy. Always inform your doctor or pharmacist about all other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal products, you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

What precautions should be taken while taking NEUGABA MN TAB?

Avoid activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating heavy machinery, until you know how the medication affects you, as it can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not stop taking NEUGABA MN TAB suddenly, especially if you are taking it for seizures, as this can lead to increased seizure frequency or withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will advise on a gradual reduction in dosage if discontinuation is necessary. Limit or avoid alcohol consumption as it can worsen the central nervous system depressant effects. Inform your doctor about any history of kidney problems, as Gabapentin is primarily excreted by the kidneys. For Methylcobalamin, avoid alcohol as it can impair B12 absorption and inform your doctor if you have certain medical conditions like Leber's disease or iron/folic acid deficiency.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of NEUGABA MN TAB, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should NEUGABA MN TAB be stored?

Store NEUGABA MN TAB in a cool, dry place, away from direct light, heat, and moisture, preferably at room temperature (between 20°C and 25°C). Keep the medicine out of reach of children and pets. Do not store it in the bathroom. Properly discard any expired or unused medication.
