DOXORIL 650 Tablet SR

DOXORIL 650 Tablet SR, manufactured by Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd., is a bronchodilator primarily used for the management and prevention of various respiratory conditions.

Composition Each tablet contains 650mg of Doxofylline.

Uses DOXORIL 650 Tablet SR is prescribed for:

  • Asthma and Bronchial Asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), including emphysema and chronic bronchitis
  • Apnea (brief periods where breathing stops) It works by relaxing the muscles of the air passages in the lungs, widening them to make breathing easier and reducing symptoms like wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.

Dosage and Administration DOXORIL 650 Tablet SR should be taken orally as directed by a doctor. It is recommended to swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, without crushing, chewing, or breaking it. The medication can be taken with or without food, but taking it at the same time each day, preferably in the evening, is often advised. This medicine is not intended for immediate relief during acute breathing difficulties, so a fast-acting inhaler should be carried for emergencies. Frequently asked questions

What is DOXORIL 650 used for?

DOXORIL 650 (Doxofylline 650mg) is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of symptoms associated with asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It helps manage symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, improving overall lung function.

How does DOXORIL 650 work?

DOXORIL 650 contains Doxofylline, which is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways in the lungs, leading to dilated bronchi and bronchioles, which makes breathing easier. It also has antitussive (cough suppressant) properties and reduces inflammation in the respiratory tract. Doxofylline achieves this by inhibiting phosphodiesterase enzymes, which increases cyclic AMP levels, further contributing to bronchodilation.

What is the usual dosage of DOXORIL 650?

The dosage and duration of DOXORIL 650 are determined by your doctor based on factors like your age, weight, and the severity of your condition. It is typically taken orally, often once daily, preferably in the evening, and can be taken with or without food. However, taking it with food may help minimize stomach upset. It's crucial to swallow the tablet whole without crushing, chewing, or breaking it and not to exceed the prescribed dose.

What are the possible side effects of DOXORIL 650?

Common side effects of DOXORIL 650 may include headaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset or pain, irritability, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), dizziness, and a fast heart rate. These are usually mild and may improve as your body adjusts to the medication. Less common or more severe side effects can include cardiac arrhythmias and tonic-clonic seizures, requiring immediate medical attention if experienced.

Is DOXORIL 650 safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

For pregnancy, caution is advised, and it is recommended to consult your doctor before using DOXORIL 650. Your doctor will weigh the benefits against the potential risks before prescribing it. DOXORIL 650 is generally not recommended for use while breastfeeding, as limited human data suggests it may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the baby.

Can DOXORIL 650 be taken with other medications?

DOXORIL 650 can interact with certain other medications. It's important to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking or plan to take. Specific interactions may occur with other xanthine derivatives (like theophylline or caffeine), sympathomimetic agents (such as salbutamol and ephedrine), and certain antibiotics (like erythromycin and ciprofloxacin).

What precautions should be taken while taking DOXORIL 650?

You should inform your doctor if you have existing kidney, liver, or heart problems (including low blood pressure, a history of heart attack, or congestive heart failure), an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), stomach ulcers, or seizure disorders, as these conditions may require caution or dose adjustment. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol, smoking, and high-caffeine products (like coffee, tea, and chocolate) during treatment, as they can worsen side effects or interact with the medication. DOXORIL 650 does not provide immediate relief for sudden breathing difficulties, so it's advisable to carry a fast-acting inhaler for emergencies.

What happens if a dose of DOXORIL 650 is missed?

If you forget to take a dose of DOXORIL 650, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing routine. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should DOXORIL 650 be stored?

DOXORIL 650 should be stored in a cool, dry place, ideally at room temperature below 30°C. It should be kept away from light and moisture to maintain its effectiveness and always out of the reach of children. Ensure to use the medicine before its expiry date.
