Frequently asked questions

DICLOBENZ 30 GM by MACLEODS PHARMACEUTICALS LTD. is a topical gel designed to alleviate pain and inflammation in muscles and joints. It combines several active ingredients that work together to provide comprehensive relief.

What is DICLOBENZ 30 GM used for?

DICLOBENZ 30 GM gel is primarily used to treat pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal conditions. This includes musculoskeletal disorders, sprains, strains, arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis), tendinitis, gout, and low back pain. It helps in relieving discomfort, rigidity, tension, stiffness, and muscle spasms while also reducing swelling and joint stiffness.

How does DICLOBENZ 30 GM work?

DICLOBENZ 30 GM is a combination medicine containing Diclofenac sodium (or diethylamine), Linseed Oil, Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride. Diclofenac sodium and Methyl Salicylate are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that reduce pain and inflammation by blocking certain chemical messengers in the body, such as prostaglandins. Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride acts as a skeletal muscle relaxant, working on the brain and nervous system to alleviate muscle spasms and stiffness. Linseed oil contributes anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting inflammatory mediators and also helps moisturize the skin, enhancing the penetration of other ingredients. Menthol provides a cooling and soothing sensation by dilating blood vessels and acts as a counterirritant, distracting from deeper pain.

What is the usual dosage of DICLOBENZ 30 GM?

DICLOBENZ 30 GM gel is for external use only. A small amount of the gel should be applied as a thin layer to the clean and dry affected area, then gently rubbed until absorbed. It is typically applied twice daily or up to four times a day, as directed by your doctor. It's important not to apply the gel in large amounts or for a longer duration than recommended, as this does not improve results but may increase the risk of side effects.

What are the possible side effects of DICLOBENZ 30 GM?

Common side effects usually occur at the application site and may include itching, irritation, redness, burning sensation, skin rash, peeling, blistering, general skin inflammation (eczema), or contact dermatitis. These side effects are generally mild and tend to subside over time. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor. While extremely rare with topical use, internal ingestion could lead to more severe side effects like nephrotoxicity, diarrhea, pancreatic inflammation, or liver damage.

Is DICLOBENZ 30 GM safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Pregnancy: DICLOBENZ 30 GM is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly during the last three months, as it could potentially harm the unborn child or cause problems during delivery. During the first six months, it should only be used with caution if the potential benefits outweigh the risks and under the strict advice of a medical professional. Breastfeeding: DICLOBENZ 30 GM can be used with caution while breastfeeding, as only tiny amounts are reported to get into breast milk. However, it is recommended to consult your doctor before use. If you are using the gel, ensure that your baby does not come into contact with the treated skin areas, and wash your hands thoroughly after application and before handling your baby.

Can DICLOBENZ 30 GM be taken with other medications?

There are no known significant drug-drug interactions specifically reported for DICLOBENZ 30 GM gel. However, it is crucial to inform your doctor about all prescription, non-prescription, and herbal supplements you are currently taking to avoid any potential side effects or interactions. It is also advised not to use other painkillers concurrently with Diclobenz Gel unless specifically prescribed by your doctor.

What precautions should be taken while using DICLOBENZ 30 GM?

DICLOBENZ 30 GM is for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, mouth, open wounds, or mucous membranes; rinse thoroughly with water if accidental contact occurs. Do not apply the gel on abraded or broken skin. Always wash your hands before and after applying the gel. Avoid using the gel in large quantities or for longer than recommended. It is not recommended for children under 14 years of age unless prescribed by a doctor. If you have sensitive skin, it's advisable to perform a patch test first. Also, avoid applying the gel immediately before, during, or after activities that increase skin temperature, such as heavy exercise, hot baths, sunbathing, or swimming, or in hot and humid weather. Inform your doctor if you have any history of liver, kidney, or heart conditions, or allergies, as it should not be used in cases of severe kidney disease or if you are allergic to any of its components or other NSAIDs.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you miss a dose of DICLOBENZ 30 GM, simply skip the missed application and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra or double the amount to compensate for a missed dose. If you have concerns, consult your doctor.

How should DICLOBENZ 30 GM be stored?

DICLOBENZ 30 GM gel should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. The ideal storage temperature is generally below 25°C or between 10°C and 25°C, and not exceeding 30°C. It is important to keep the gel out of the sight and reach of children. Avoid freezing the product or exposing it to excessively hot temperatures.
