Frequently asked questions

What is Sterio 4mg Tablet used for?

Sterio 4mg Tablet, containing Methylprednisolone, is a corticosteroid medication used to treat a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. These include severe allergic conditions, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, various skin and eye disorders, blood disorders, and inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It is also used to manage adrenal gland problems, prevent organ rejection after transplantation, and in some cases, treat certain types of cancer.

How does Sterio 4mg Tablet work?

Sterio 4mg Tablet works by mimicking the natural hormones produced by the adrenal glands. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant agent, reducing swelling, pain, and redness by blocking the production and release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation and allergic reactions. It also suppresses the immune system's response to various conditions.

What is the usual dosage for Sterio 4mg Tablet?

The dosage of Sterio 4mg Tablet varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response. For adults, the dosage may range from 4mg to 48mg daily. It is generally advised to take this medicine with food to prevent an upset stomach, and exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Sterio 4mg Tablet?

Common side effects can include increased appetite, indigestion, insomnia, nervousness, mood changes, headache, nausea, muscle weakness, thinning of the skin, increased risk of infection, and a reduction in bone density. More serious side effects, especially with long-term use, might include high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, cataracts, glaucoma, and slowed growth in children.

Is Sterio 4mg Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Sterio 4mg Tablet should be used during pregnancy only if it is considered clearly necessary by a physician, as animal studies have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. For breastfeeding mothers, the medicine is known to be excreted in small amounts through breast milk, and it is considered safe in most cases, but consultation with a doctor is recommended to weigh the benefits and potential risks.

Can Sterio 4mg Tablet be taken with other medications?

Sterio 4mg Tablet can interact with various medications. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are taking. Interactions can occur with anti-tubercular medicines, antibiotics, antihypertensive medicines, oral contraceptives, antacids, antidiabetic medicines, immunosuppressants (like ciclosporin and tacrolimus), and painkillers, potentially increasing side effects or altering effectiveness.

What precautions should be taken while taking Sterio 4mg Tablet?

Several precautions should be observed. Avoid consuming grapefruit juice while on this medication, as it may lead to undesired effects. Live vaccines should not be taken when on this drug, and it is advisable to avoid interaction with sick individuals due to an increased risk of infections. Caution is advised for patients with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer, and liver or kidney problems. It's important not to stop the medication abruptly, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms.

What happens if a dose of Sterio 4mg Tablet is missed?

If you miss a dose of Sterio 4mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, it is best to skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, as this can increase the risk of side effects.
