Description
INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET (21 TAB)
INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET is an oral hormonal combination contraceptive manufactured by Aristo Pharmaceuticals Private Limited.
-
Composition: Each tablet primarily contains Desogestrel 0.15 mg and Ethinyl Estradiol 0.02 mg.
-
Uses:
- Contraception: It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting the release of an egg from the ovaries (ovulation), thickening cervical fluid to impede sperm movement, and altering the uterine lining to make it unsuitable for egg implantation.
- Irregular Periods (Dysmenorrhea): It is also prescribed for the treatment of irregular and painful periods.
- May help reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.
-
Dosage and Administration:
- Take one tablet daily at the same time, as advised by your doctor.
- The medication typically involves taking a tablet for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day pill-free interval, during which menstruation usually occurs.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not chew, crush, or break it.
- Can be taken with or without food.
- If vomiting occurs within 4 hours of intake, a replacement tablet may be needed.
- If a dose is missed by more than 12 hours, use a non-hormonal method of contraception (e.g., condom) for the next 2 to 5 days.
-
Side Effects:
- Common: Nausea, headache, breast pain/tenderness, weight gain or decrease, acne, abdominal pain/cramps, irregular uterine bleeding (spotting), and changes in mood or depression. Most common side effects are temporary and may diminish as the body adjusts to the medication.
- Serious: Swelling and pain in limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, or changes in vision, which could indicate a blood clot, should be reported to a doctor immediately.
-
Precautions:
- Do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Not recommended for women over 35 years who smoke, due to increased risk of cardiovascular events.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, hypertension, obesity, cancer (breast, cervix, uterus, vagina), diabetes mellitus, liver or kidney disease, abnormal uterine bleeding, blood clotting disorders, or cerebrovascular disorders.
- INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET does not offer protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or HIV.
- Avoid starting new medications without consulting your doctor, as some drugs (e.g., certain anti-seizure medications, tuberculosis medications, griseofulvin, modafinil, HIV medicines) may reduce the effectiveness of this tablet.
- Regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels may be required.
-
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight, at or below 30ºC. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Frequently asked questions
What is INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET used for?
INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET is primarily used for contraception (to prevent pregnancy). It is also used to treat dysmenorrhea, which refers to irregular and painful periods.
How does INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET work?
INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET contains two female sex hormones, Desogestrel (a progestin) and Ethinyl Estradiol (an estrogen). It works in multiple ways to prevent pregnancy:
- It inhibits the release of an egg from the ovaries (ovulation).
- It thickens the cervical fluid, making it difficult for sperm to reach the womb.
- It prevents the thickening of the uterus's inner wall (endometrium), making it unsuitable for a fertilized egg to implant and grow. This medication may also help reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.
What is the usual dosage for INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET?
INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET should be taken daily at the same time as advised by a doctor. The typical regimen involves taking the tablet for 21 days, starting on the first day of the menstrual cycle, followed by a 7-day break before starting a new pack. It can be taken with or without food.
What are the possible side effects of INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET?
Common side effects may include nausea, headache, breast pain or tenderness, and weight gain (increase or decrease). Other possible side effects include irregular uterine bleeding or spotting between periods, acne, abdominal pain, cramps, and feelings of depression. Most of these side effects are temporary and usually resolve as your body adjusts to the medication. If side effects persist, are bothersome, or appear serious, it's advisable to consult your doctor.
Serious, though less common, side effects can include symptoms of a blood clot such as unexplained swelling and pain in limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, or changes in vision. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms occur.
Is INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No, INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET is not recommended for use if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. If pregnancy occurs while taking this medication, consult your doctor immediately.
Can INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET be taken with other medications?
It is crucial to inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as some medications can reduce the effectiveness of INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET or alter its mode of action. Some medications that may interact include:
- Medicines for epilepsy (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital).
- Tuberculosis medicines (e.g., rifampicin, rifabutin).
- Antiviral medicines, including HIV medicines.
- Antifungal medicines (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole).

Women over 35 years old who smoke should be cautious due to an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels may be required during treatment. This medication does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or HIV. Avoid smoking, excessive alcohol, caffeine, and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
What happens if a dose of INTIMACY PLUS 2 TABLET is missed?

In such cases, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember and use a non-hormonal method of contraception, such as condoms, for at least the next 7 days. If vomiting occurs within 4 hours of taking a tablet, a replacement tablet may be needed. Frequent missing of doses can lead to unexpected vaginal bleeding or spotting.
