  • KENACORT 10MG INJ is administered by a healthcare professional directly into the affected joint, tendon, or intradermally into a lesion.
  • It should not be administered intravenously, intramuscularly, or intraocularly.
  • Dosage varies depending on the specific condition, the patient's reaction, and the injection site, typically ranging from 5 mg to 40 mg for joints, and up to 1 mg per intradermal injection site.
  • The vial should be shaken before use to ensure a uniform suspension.
  • Patients should not self-administer this medicine.

  • May cause dizziness; patients should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if affected.
  • Repeated injections into inflamed tendons should be avoided due to the risk of tendon rupture.

Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about KENACORT 10MG INJ by ABBOTT:

What is Kenacort 10mg Injection used for?

Kenacort 10mg Injection is primarily used for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant properties. It treats various conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute gouty arthritis, bursitis, and tenosynovitis. It's also indicated for certain severe allergic conditions, skin disorders like psoriasis, lichen planus, keloids, and autoimmune diseases.

How does Kenacort 10mg Injection work?

Kenacort 10mg Injection contains triamcinolone acetonide, which is a synthetic corticosteroid. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies. It also helps to normalize the immune system's function, preventing it from attacking the body's own tissues in autoimmune disorders.

What is the usual dosage for Kenacort 10mg Injection?

The dosage of Kenacort 10mg Injection varies significantly depending on the specific condition being treated, the site of injection, and the patient's response. For intra-articular or intra-synovial administration, doses may range from 5 mg to 10 mg for smaller joints and up to 40 mg for larger joints. For intradermal administration, the initial dose is typically limited to 1.0 mg per injection site. It is always administered by a healthcare professional, and you should not self-administer this medicine.

What are the possible side effects of Kenacort 10mg Injection?

Common side effects can include sore throat, runny nose, sinusitis, dizziness, nervousness, cough, bruising (contusions), and reactions at the injection site such as pain, redness, or swelling. More serious, less common side effects can include osteoporosis (weakening of bones), stomach ulcers, increased blood pressure, increased blood sugar, susceptibility to infections, changes in mood or behavior, and in rare cases, severe allergic reactions.

Is Kenacort 10mg Injection safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Kenacort 10mg Injection is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary, and only after a thorough discussion with your doctor regarding the potential benefits versus the risks to the mother and infant. Corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic in animals, and it is not known whether Kenacort 10mg Injection passes into breast milk.

Can Kenacort 10mg Injection be taken with other medications?

It is crucial to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies. Kenacort can interact with certain medications, such as potassium-depleting agents (e.g., Amphotericin B), oral anticoagulants (blood thinners), anticholinesterase agents, and vaccines. Corticosteroids can reduce the effectiveness of vaccines and may increase the risk of infection with live vaccines.

What precautions should be taken with Kenacort 10mg Injection?

Several precautions should be observed. Kenacort 10mg Injection is not suitable for intravenous, intramuscular, or intraocular use. It should be used with caution in patients with systemic infections, ocular herpes simplex, osteoporosis, diabetes, glaucoma, and liver or kidney diseases. Prolonged use, especially in children, may suppress growth. Patients should avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles, as the medication can weaken the immune system. This medication contains benzyl alcohol, which should be avoided in newborn or premature infants.

What happens if a dose of Kenacort 10mg Injection is missed?

As Kenacort 10mg Injection is administered by a healthcare professional, the chances of missing a dose are usually minimal. However, if a scheduled dose is missed, contact your doctor or healthcare provider immediately to reschedule. Do not try to self-administer a missed dose.

How should Kenacort 10mg Injection be stored?

Kenacort 10mg Injection should be stored below 30°C (86°F), protected from light, and kept upright. It is important to avoid freezing the medication. It will be stored by your healthcare provider in a clinic or hospital setting.
