RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TABLET
- Name: Ramistar AM 2.5 Tablet (Brand name: Ramistar AM).
- Composition: Each tablet contains Amlodipine (5 mg) and Ramipril (2.5 mg). Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, and Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
- Uses: Ramistar AM 2.5 Tablet is primarily used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. It also helps reduce cardiovascular risks, including the prevention of heart attacks and strokes, and can be used to manage certain types of angina (chest pain) and heart failure. It may also protect kidney function, particularly in patients with hypertension and type II diabetes mellitus.
- Dosage and Administration: This medicine should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet; swallow it whole with water. Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor.
- Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness, swelling of ankles or other body parts (edema), headache, sleepiness, tiredness, racing heartbeat (palpitations), indigestion, constipation, muscle cramps, and cough. Serious side effects, though rare, can include allergic reactions (skin rash, swelling of face/lips/throat), severe skin reactions, chest pain, and inflammation of the pancreas.
- Precautions: Ramistar AM 2.5 Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy (especially in the second and third trimesters) or breastfeeding due to potential harm to the baby. Caution is advised for individuals with liver or kidney problems, severe low blood pressure, or certain heart conditions. Alcohol intake should be limited as it can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice, and inform your doctor about all other medications, including NSAIDs and potassium supplements, to prevent interactions. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes may be necessary.
- Storage: Store Ramistar AM 2.5 Tablet below 30°C in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions
Here are frequently asked questions about RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB:
What is RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB used for and how does it work?
RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB is primarily used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) and certain types of angina, such as Prinzmetal or variant angina. It can also be used to manage heart failure, reduce hospitalization chances for heart patients, and protect kidney function, especially in individuals with both hypertension and type II diabetes mellitus. This medication is a combination of Amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) and Ramipril (an Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme, or ACE, inhibitor). Amlodipine works by dilating blood vessels, facilitating better blood flow, and reducing blood pressure. Ramipril relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking the action of an enzyme that constricts them, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and improving blood flow to the heart and kidneys.
What is the usual dosage for RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB?
The dosage of RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB is determined by your doctor based on your specific medical condition, age, kidney and liver function, and response to treatment. It is recommended to take the tablet at the same time each day, with or without food, for consistency. It is crucial to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and not to alter it without consulting your doctor.
What are the possible side effects of RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB?
Common side effects include dizziness, swelling of ankles or other body parts (edema), headache, sleepiness, tiredness, racing heartbeat (palpitations), indigestion, constipation, muscle cramps, dry cough, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, blurred vision, and flushing (redness and warmth of the skin). It can also increase potassium levels in the blood. If these side effects bother you, contact your doctor. Serious side effects are rare but may include signs of allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat leading to difficulty breathing or swallowing), severe skin reactions, chest pain, shortness of breath (signs of heart attack), and inflammation of the pancreas.
Is RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it may cause serious harm to the developing fetus, particularly during the second and third trimesters. It is also not recommended or is probably unsafe for use during breastfeeding, as it may pass into human breast milk. If you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
Can RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB be taken with other medications?
Before taking RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB, inform your doctor about all other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins you are currently taking. It can interact with various medications. For example, it should not be used with sacubitril/valsartan. Concomitant use with aliskiren is generally not recommended, especially for diabetic patients or those with kidney problems, as it can increase the risk of serious side effects like kidney problems, low blood pressure, and high potassium levels. Medicines that supplement potassium or trimethoprim-containing antibiotics should be used with caution, as they may increase potassium levels. NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) may reduce its effectiveness and increase the risk of kidney problems. Other blood pressure-lowering medicines, nitrates, diuretics, certain antidepressants, anesthetics, and muscle relaxants can increase the risk of low blood pressure.
What precautions should be taken while using RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB?
Inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems, severe high or low blood pressure, or other heart problems (such as narrowing of arteries or a recent heart attack). You should also inform your doctor if you have diabetes, are on a low-salt diet, or are severely dehydrated. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels is advised during treatment. Avoid consuming alcohol, as it can severely decrease your blood pressure and increase dizziness. Due to potential dizziness, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Avoid potassium-rich foods or supplements as this medicine can increase blood potassium levels.
What happens if a dose of RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB is missed?
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
How should RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB be stored?
RAMISTAR AM 2.5MG TAB should be stored below 30°C in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. It should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
