Description
RABEMAC OS (SUGAR FREE) MINT FLAVOUR ORAL SUSPENSION 200 ML
Name: RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension Sugar Free Mint.
Composition: This oral suspension contains a combination of four active ingredients: Aluminium hydroxide (250mg), Magnesium hydroxide (250mg), Oxetacaine (10mg), and Simethicone (50mg).
Uses: RABEMAC OS is prescribed for the treatment and relief of various acid-related gastrointestinal conditions. These include acidity, heartburn, indigestion, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), stomach upset, stomach ulcers, and bloating. It is also used to manage symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, Erosive Esophagitis, and to relieve pain caused by ulcers or acidic injury in the stomach.
Dosage and Administration: Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the prescribed dose using the provided measuring device. It is generally advised to take RABEMAC OS as directed by your healthcare provider. Some sources suggest taking it after meals or at bedtime, while others recommend taking it on an empty stomach, preferably 30-60 minutes before a meal, as food may decrease absorption of some components. Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and duration; do not exceed the recommended dose or double a missed dose.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence (gas), dry mouth, and dizziness. Rarely, more severe effects like skin rash, itching, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, changes in liver function tests, muscle pain, joint pain, blurred vision, changes in blood cell counts, or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) can occur.
Precautions: Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, or other medications you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions. RABEMAC OS is not recommended for individuals with severe kidney disease, low phosphate levels, high magnesium levels, intestinal obstruction, or appendicitis. Exercise caution if pregnant or breastfeeding, and consult a doctor. Avoid alcohol consumption as it can irritate the stomach lining and may increase acidity or drowsiness. This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so use caution when driving or operating machinery. Avoid consuming foods and drinks containing citrates, as they may increase aluminum levels. Use with caution in children, with dosage carefully determined by a pediatrician, due to the risk of hypermagnesemia, especially with renal impairment or dehydration.
Storage: Store RABEMAC OS in its original container, tightly closed, in a cool, dry place at room temperature (20-25°C), away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children. Do not freeze.

Here are some frequently asked questions about RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension:
What is RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension used for?
RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension is primarily used to manage symptoms of acidity, heartburn, indigestion, stomach discomfort, gas, and bloating. It can also be prescribed for conditions like stomach ulcers, gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
How does RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension work?
This medicine works through a combination of its active ingredients:
- Aluminium hydroxide and Magnesium hydroxide are antacids that neutralize excess stomach acid, increasing the stomach's pH level and reducing acidity.
- Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent that helps break down gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, facilitating their expulsion and relieving bloating and discomfort.
- Oxetacaine acts as a local anesthetic, numbing the stomach lining to provide relief from pain caused by ulcers or acidic injury.
What is the usual dosage for RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension?
The dosage of RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension should be taken as directed by your doctor. It can vary based on your individual needs, including the severity of your condition and your response to the medicine. Generally, it is taken orally, often without food, preferably about 1 hour before a meal, or as advised by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before each use and use a measuring cup or spoon for accurate dosing.
What are the possible side effects of RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension?
Common side effects may include constipation, diarrhea, stomach cramps or pain, white stools, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, bloating, heartburn, upset stomach, loss of appetite, dry mouth, dizziness, and drowsiness. Most side effects are temporary and often resolve upon discontinuing the medicine. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
Is RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Caution is advised during pregnancy, as magnesium hydroxide, one of the ingredients, may potentially cause fetal harm. It should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus. If you are breastfeeding, exercise caution as the medicine may pass into breast milk. It's considered safe by some sources as it does not excrete via breast milk, but consulting your doctor is recommended in both cases.
Can it be taken with other medications?
RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension may interact with certain medications. For instance, it can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics (like quinolones and tetracyclines) and iron supplements. It may also interfere with the effectiveness of thyroid hormones and can increase the levels of immunosuppressants like tacrolimus. Always inform your doctor about all other medications, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, you are currently taking to prevent potential drug interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension?
- Kidney Disease: It is not recommended for use if you have kidney disease, or should be used with caution, as magnesium hydroxide may cause high blood magnesium levels (hypermagnesaemia).
- Bowel Conditions: It is contraindicated for individuals with intestinal or bowel obstruction, or appendicitis.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption as it may irritate the stomach lining and increase acidity.
- Driving/Operating Machinery: Due to possible dizziness or drowsiness, use caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Children: Use with caution in children aged 2 to 18 years, as it may cause hypermagnesemia in small children, especially with renal impairment or dehydration.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
How should RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension be stored?
Store RABEMAC OS Oral Suspension below 30°C. Keep it in its original container, tightly closed, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of reach of children. Do not freeze the product.
