Frequently asked questions
What is VOZAN 20MG Tablet used for?
VOZAN 20MG Tablet is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of sores in the lining of the stomach or intestine, also known as gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is also prescribed to heal damage to the esophagus caused by excess stomach acid (erosive esophagitis) and to alleviate associated heartburn. Additionally, when prescribed with other antibiotics, it helps to eliminate Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which can lead to stomach ulcers and other gastrointestinal issues. It can also be used for the management of Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
How does VOZAN 20MG Tablet work?
VOZAN 20MG Tablet contains vonoprazan, which is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB). It works by inhibiting a specific enzyme in the stomach cells called H+/K+-ATPase, also known as the proton pump. This enzyme is responsible for the final step of acid production in the stomach. By blocking this pump, vonoprazan effectively reduces the amount of stomach acid, which helps to heal ulcers and alleviate acid-related symptoms. Unlike traditional proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), vonoprazan does not require stomach acid to function and binds to the proton pumps temporarily, allowing for faster and more consistent control of gastric pH.
What is the usual dosage for VOZAN 20MG Tablet?
The usual adult dosage for VOZAN 20MG Tablet varies depending on the condition being treated. For gastric ulcers, it is typically 20mg administered orally once daily for 8 weeks. For duodenal ulcers, it's 20mg once daily for 6 weeks. For reflux esophagitis, the usual dose is 20mg once daily for 4 weeks, with a possible extension if needed. For the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, it's often used as part of a triple therapy regimen with antibiotics, typically 20mg twice daily for 7 days. It is important to follow your doctor's exact instructions and not to alter the prescribed dosage.
What are the possible side effects of VOZAN 20MG Tablet?
Common side effects of VOZAN 20MG Tablet may include diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, high blood pressure, indigestion, and bloating. Other reported side effects include headache, changes in taste, vaginal yeast infection, and cold-like symptoms. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider.
Is VOZAN 20MG Tablet safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
There is limited safety information available on the use of VOZAN 20MG Tablet in pregnant women. It is not known whether vonoprazan can harm an unborn baby. Therefore, it should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits justify the potential risks, and you should consult your doctor. Regarding breastfeeding, it is advised not to breastfeed your baby while on this medicine as it may pass into breast milk. Always discuss potential risks and benefits with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Can VOZAN 20MG Tablet be taken with other medications?
VOZAN 20MG Tablet can interact with certain other medications. It may reduce the effectiveness of medicines such as Rilpivirine, Nelfinavir, and Atazanavir (used to treat HIV/AIDS). It can also affect medicines that require a more acidic environment in the stomach to work effectively, such as iron salts, Erlotinib, Dasatinib, Nilotinib, Mycophenolate mofetil, and Ketoconazole/Itraconazole. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking or might take to avoid possible interactions.
What precautions should be taken while using VOZAN 20MG Tablet?
Before taking VOZAN 20MG Tablet, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems, low blood magnesium, calcium, or potassium levels, or if you are taking a diuretic. This medicine may cause dizziness, so you should not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Avoid consuming alcohol, as it can reduce the effectiveness of the tablet and delay the healing of ulcers. Also, avoid spicy, acidic, or fatty foods that can trigger acid reflux, and avoid lying down immediately after eating.
What happens if a dose of VOZAN 20MG Tablet is missed?
If you miss a dose of VOZAN 20MG Tablet and it is within 12 hours of your usual time (for erosive esophagitis and heartburn), take it as soon as you remember. If it is more than 12 hours after the missed dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. For H. pylori infection treatment, if a dose is missed within 4 hours, take it as soon as possible; otherwise, skip the missed dose. Never double the next dose to compensate for a missed one.
How should VOZAN 20MG Tablet be stored?
VOZAN 20MG Tablet should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children and pets. It is recommended to store it at room temperature, generally below 30°C.
