Description
CIDAZOLE SUSPENSION by JUGGAT PHARMA
CIDAZOLE SUSPENSION is an anthelmintic medication manufactured by Juggat Pharma (Jagdale Industries Pvt. Ltd.).
- Name: Cidazole Suspension
- Composition: Each 5ml suspension contains Albendazole (micronised) IP 200 mg.
- Uses: CIDAZOLE SUSPENSION is used to treat various parasitic worm infections. It is effective against pinworms, tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms, threadworms, and whipworms. It is also prescribed for conditions such as Neurocysticercosis (worm infections in the brain), Cystic Hydatid disease (affecting liver, lung, or stomach lining), Strongyloidiasis, and Giardiasis. The medication works by inhibiting worms from absorbing vital nutrients, leading to their death and expulsion from the body.
- Dosage and Administration: For children over 2 years, a typical dose is 10 ml as a single dose, or as directed by a physician. It is recommended to administer the suspension orally with a meal containing some fat, such as milk, to enhance absorption. If vomiting occurs within 30 minutes of administration, the same dosage should be given again. For specific conditions like Neurocysticercosis and Hydatid Disease, dosages may be weight-based.
- Side Effects: Common temporary side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, mild fever, sore throat, and transient hair loss. More serious, though rare, side effects can include bleeding, elevated liver enzymes, and bone marrow suppression (decrease in white blood cells).
- Precautions: CIDAZOLE SUSPENSION is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and women of childbearing age should have a negative pregnancy test before starting treatment. It should be used with caution in individuals with pre-existing liver or kidney conditions, seizures, or blood disorders. The full course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor should be completed to ensure adequate infection control.
- Storage: Store CIDAZOLE SUSPENSION in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children. It should generally be stored below 30°C.
Frequently asked questions
Cidazole Suspension is a medication primarily used to treat various parasitic worm infections. It contains Albendazole, an anthelmintic agent. Below are some frequently asked questions about Cidazole Suspension.
What is Cidazole Suspension used for?
Cidazole Suspension is used to treat a wide range of parasitic worm infections in the body. This includes intestinal worm infections caused by pinworms, tapeworms, hookworms, threadworms, roundworms, and whipworms. It also treats systemic infections like neurocysticercosis (worm infection in the brain) and cystic hydatid disease (affecting the liver, lungs, or stomach lining).
How does Cidazole Suspension work?
Cidazole Suspension contains Albendazole, which works by preventing the parasitic worms from absorbing vital nutrients, such as sugar (glucose). This disruption in their metabolism depletes the worms' energy reserves, leading to their weakening and eventual death. The dead worms are then naturally expelled from the body through bowel movements.
What is the usual dosage for Cidazole Suspension?
The precise dosage of Cidazole Suspension varies depending on the type of worm infection, the patient's age, and body weight, and should always be determined by a healthcare provider. For regular deworming, children aged 1-2 years typically receive a single dose of 5 ml, while those over 2 years usually receive a single dose of 10 ml. For other infections, treatment duration can range from a few days to several weeks, and a repeat dose after two weeks may be recommended to prevent re-infection.
What are the possible side effects of Cidazole Suspension?
Common side effects can include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, increased liver enzymes, loss of appetite, mild hair loss, fatigue, mild fever, and sore throat. These side effects are usually temporary. Rarely, more serious side effects like bleeding may occur, and you should contact your doctor if side effects persist, worsen, or if unusual bleeding is observed.
Is Cidazole Suspension safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
There is conflicting information regarding the safety of Cidazole Suspension during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some sources advise against its use in pregnant or breastfeeding women due to potential side effects and recommend using contraception during treatment and for several months afterward. Other sources suggest it is generally safe but still recommend consulting a doctor before use during these periods. It is crucial to consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Can Cidazole Suspension be taken with other medications?
Cidazole Suspension can interact with certain medications. Inform your doctor if you are taking praziquantel (for parasitic blood infection), ritonavir (for HIV), epilepsy medications (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital), or dexamethasone. It may also increase the levels of theophylline (a bronchodilator) and potentially decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. Avoid consuming grapefruit juice while on this medication, as it can increase the concentration of Cidazole Suspension in the blood.
What precautions should be taken when using Cidazole Suspension?
Before taking Cidazole Suspension, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems, a history of allergies to albendazole, seizures, or blood disorders. Your doctor may monitor your blood counts and liver function during treatment. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment and for several months after discontinuing the medication. If vomiting occurs within 30 minutes of taking a dose, the same dose should be given again.
What happens if a dose of Cidazole Suspension is missed?
If you miss a dose of Cidazole Suspension, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
How should Cidazole Suspension be stored?
Cidazole Suspension should be stored in a cool, dry place, typically below 30°C, and protected from direct sunlight. Keep the medication out of the reach and sight of children.
