Frequently asked questions
What is Gemidro 150 mg Tablet used for?
Gemidro 150 mg Tablet is primarily used to prevent and treat osteoporosis, a condition characterized by weak and brittle bones, especially in postmenopausal women. It helps by slowing down bone loss, increasing bone mass, and reducing the risk of bone fractures. This medicine can also be used to manage high blood calcium levels (hypercalcaemia) associated with bone metastases from breast cancer.
How does Gemidro 150 mg Tablet work?
Gemidro 150 mg Tablet contains Ibandronic Acid and belongs to a class of medicines called bisphosphonates. It works by inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts, which are specialized cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue. By suppressing these cells, it helps restore the balance between bone formation and breakdown, thereby increasing bone mineral density and strengthening bones.
What is the usual dosage for Gemidro 150 mg Tablet?
Gemidro 150 mg Tablet is typically taken once a month. It should be taken first thing in the morning with a full glass of plain water. After taking the tablet, you should not eat or drink anything (except water) for at least 1 hour (or 60 minutes). It is also crucial to remain in an upright position (sitting or standing) for at least 1 hour (or 60 minutes) to prevent irritation of the food pipe. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed, chewed, or dissolved.
What are the possible side effects of Gemidro 150 mg Tablet?

Can Gemidro 150 mg Tablet be taken with other medications?
Certain medications and supplements can interact with Gemidro 150 mg Tablet. It should not be taken concurrently with calcium, iron, aluminium, or magnesium supplements or antacids, as these can interfere with its absorption. A gap of at least 6 hours should be maintained between taking Gemidro and these supplements. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin, diclofenac, or ibuprofen should be used with caution, as they may increase gastric discomfort when taken with Gemidro Tablet. It is important to ensure that any low blood calcium levels and vitamin D deficiencies are corrected before treatment.
