Description
HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION 60 ML
Name: Hair 4U (New) 5% Spray/Solution 60 mL. Also commonly referred to as New Hair 4U 5% Solution. Manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Composition:
- Active Ingredient: Minoxidil (5% w/v)
- Contains Absolute Alcohol (30.0% V/V)
Uses: HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION is primarily used for the management of hereditary hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern baldness). It works as a vasodilator, stimulating hair growth and preventing further hair loss by increasing blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients to the hair follicles, thereby revitalizing them. It is most effective for mild to moderate hair loss, particularly at the top of the scalp, but may be less effective for frontal baldness or a receding hairline. It is not intended for sudden or unexplained hair loss or hair loss caused by medical conditions like chemotherapy or nutritional deficiencies.
Dosage and Administration: This medicine is for external use only and should be applied directly to a clean, dry scalp.
- Typical Dosage: Apply 1 milliliter (mL) of the solution (equivalent to 5 actuations of the spray) to the affected areas of the scalp twice a day, usually in the morning and evening.
- Gently massage the solution into the scalp with fingertips and allow it to dry completely.
- Avoid shampooing your hair or using a hairdryer for at least 4 hours after application to ensure effectiveness.
- Wash hands thoroughly before and after application.
- Continuous use is necessary to maintain hair growth.
Side Effects:
- Common Side Effects: Itching, excessive hair growth (hypertrichosis), dermatitis, rash, headache, burning sensation, dry skin, scalp irritation, flaking, and redness of the scalp. An initial increase in hair fall may occur during the first 2 weeks of application, which is usually temporary.
- Serious Side Effects (Seek immediate medical attention if experienced): Persistent redness or irritation of the scalp, continuous hair shedding after 2-3 weeks, sudden unexplained weight gain, signs of a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, or throat with difficulty swallowing or breathing), swollen hands or feet, faintness or dizziness, chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, or low blood pressure.
Precautions:
- Contraindications: Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals under 18 years of age, or those over 65 years of age.
- Do not use if you have conditions affecting the scalp such as sunburn, psoriasis, inflammation, infection, irritation, or open wounds.
- Consult a doctor before use if you have high blood pressure, heart conditions (e.g., angina, recent heart attack), or blood circulation problems.
- Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, or broken skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with plenty of cool tap water.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage, as it will not accelerate hair growth and may increase the risk of side effects.
- Be cautious to prevent the solution from trickling onto the face, as it may cause undesirable facial hair growth.
- Inform your doctor about any other medications being applied to the scalp, including corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), tretinoin, petrolatum, dithranol, or other systemic medications like vasodilators (e.g., hydralazine) or guanethidine, as interactions may occur.
Storage: Store below 25°C or at room temperature between 20-25°C. Keep in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Frequently asked questions
HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION contains Minoxidil, a vasodilator, as its active ingredient. It is manufactured by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd..
What is HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION used for?
HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION is primarily used for the management of hereditary hair loss, also known as androgenic alopecia, in both men and women. It is effective for mild to moderate hair loss and helps stimulate new hair growth.
How does HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION work?
This solution works by revitalizing hair follicles. Minoxidil, the active ingredient, is a vasodilator that increases blood flow to the scalp when applied. This enhanced blood flow delivers more nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles, preventing hair cell death and promoting new hair growth. It can also prolong the anagen (active growth) phase of hair.
What is the usual dosage of HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION?
For men, the recommended dosage is typically 1 milliliter (approximately 6-10 sprays) of the 5% solution applied to the affected areas of the scalp twice a day. For women, a 5% foam or a 2% solution once daily is often recommended to reduce the risk of unwanted side effects. It's crucial to apply it to a dry scalp and gently massage it in. Do not exceed 2 mL in a 24-hour period. Consistent use is necessary to see and maintain results.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects of topical Minoxidil include scalp irritation, itching, dryness, redness, flaking, or a burning sensation at the application site. Some individuals may also experience temporary increased hair shedding in the initial weeks of treatment, which is often a sign the medicine is working. Less common side effects can include unexpected hair growth in areas other than the scalp, dizziness, or changes in hair color or texture. More serious, but rare, side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain, rapid heartbeat, swelling of the face, hands, ankles, or stomach, and unexplained weight gain.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION (Minoxidil) is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Minoxidil can be systemically absorbed, and there are concerns about potential effects on the developing fetus or infant, including excessive hair growth. It is advisable to consult a healthcare provider for alternative options if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Can it be taken with other medications?
While topical Minoxidil has fewer systemic interactions than oral Minoxidil, it's still important to inform your doctor about all medications you are using. Concurrent use with certain other topical agents that alter the skin barrier, such as tretinoin or dithranol, may enhance Minoxidil absorption. There's also a possibility of amplified blood pressure-lowering effects if used with certain diuretics or blood pressure medications, though this is more of a concern with oral minoxidil. Using low-dose aspirin with topical minoxidil may reduce its effectiveness.
What precautions should be taken?
Apply the solution only to a normal, healthy, and dry scalp. Do not use it on inflamed, infected, irritated, or painful scalp skin, or if your scalp is cut or sunburned. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth; if accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with cool tap water. Wash hands immediately after application. Do not use a hairdryer to dry the scalp after application, as it may reduce effectiveness. Allow the solution to dry completely for 2-4 hours before going to bed or wearing hats to prevent staining or transfer to other body parts. It is flammable, so keep it away from heat or open flame.
What happens if a dose is missed?
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a forgotten one, as this will not improve results and may increase the risk of side effects.
How should it be stored?
HAIR 4U (NEW) 5% SPRAY/SOLUTION should be stored in a closed container at room temperature, ideally between 20-25°C (68-77°F), away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep it from freezing. As the product is flammable, keep it away from fire or flame. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
