VOLINI GEL 75 G

Name: Volini Gel (Brand Name), Volini Pain Relief Gel (Common Name)

Composition: Volini Gel contains a blend of active ingredients. These include Diclofenac Diethylamine (equivalent to Diclofenac Sodium 1% w/w), Methyl Salicylate (10% w/w), Menthol (5% w/w), and Linseed Oil (Oleum Lini 3% w/w). Benzyl Alcohol (1% w/w) is also present as a preservative.

Uses: Volini Gel is indicated for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in various musculoskeletal conditions. It is used to alleviate muscle pain, strains, sprains, spasms, and cramps. It provides effective relief for backache, neck pain, shoulder pain, wrist pain, calf pain, and joint pain, including those associated with arthritis and osteoarthritis. The gel also helps in reducing stiffness and swelling.

Dosage and Administration: This medicine is for external use only. Apply a small amount (2-4g) to the affected area 3-4 times a day, ensuring a minimum gap of 4 hours between applications. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 16g. Gently rub the gel into the skin. Do not apply to broken, irritated skin, open wounds, cuts, or infected areas, and avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes. Wash hands thoroughly after use, unless treating the hands themselves. Do not cover the treated area with bandages or wraps, and avoid showering or bathing for at least one hour after application.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include localized skin irritation, rashes, itching, redness, swelling, or a burning sensation at the application site. These effects are usually mild and temporary. If any side effects persist, worsen, or if other adverse reactions occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

Precautions:

  • External Use: Strict adherence to external application is crucial.
  • Allergies: Exercise caution if there is a history of allergy to NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) or any of the ingredients. A patch test is recommended for sensitive skin.
  • Medical Conditions: Patients with advanced kidney disease, asthma, coagulation problems, high blood pressure, heart failure, or severe liver disease should consult a doctor before use.
  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before using if pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Interactions: While systemic interactions are unlikely, consult a doctor if using oral painkillers or other NSAIDs concurrently.
  • Environmental: Avoid applying the gel right before or after activities that increase skin temperature and limit excessive sunlight exposure to the treated area.

Storage: Store Volini Gel in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat, ideally at room temperature (below 30°C). Ensure the cap is tightly closed after each use and keep it out of reach of children. Do not freeze the product.

Frequently asked questions

Volini Gel 75g is a topical pain relief medication commonly used for various musculoskeletal conditions. It contains a combination of active ingredients that work together to reduce pain and inflammation.

What is Volini Gel used for?

Volini Gel is primarily used for the local symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation associated with trauma of the tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints, such as sprains, strains, and bruises. It is also effective for localized forms of soft tissue rheumatism, muscle pain, joint pain, backaches, sports injuries, and pain from non-serious arthritic conditions like osteoarthritis.

How does Volini Gel work?

Volini Gel works through its active ingredients: Diclofenac diethylamine, Methyl Salicylate, Menthol, and Linseed Oil. Diclofenac diethylamine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that blocks the release of chemical messengers causing pain and inflammation. Methyl Salicylate and Menthol act as counter-irritants, first providing a cooling sensation and then a warming effect, which helps to desensitize nerve endings and distract from pain. Menthol also dilates blood vessels, enhancing drug penetration. Linseed oil has anti-inflammatory properties, which helps to decrease swelling and inflammation.

What is the usual dosage for Volini Gel?

For adults and children 14 years and over, gently rub 2-4 grams of Volini Gel into the affected skin area 3-4 times a day. A period of at least 4 hours should be left between applications, and the maximum daily dose is 16 grams, with a maximum weekly dose of 112 grams. It is not recommended to use the gel for more than 7 days unless advised by a doctor; for arthritis pain, it may be used for up to 14 days under pharmacy supervision.

What are the possible side effects of Volini Gel?

Common side effects can include skin irritation, redness, itching, a burning sensation at the application site, and contact dermatitis. If you experience any persistent or worsening adverse effects, you should seek medical help immediately.

Is Volini Gel safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

It is generally recommended to consult your doctor before using Volini Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. While occasional use for localized pain during pregnancy is generally considered safe when used sparingly, it's crucial to consult a gynecologist to ensure it is safe for both you and the baby. For breastfeeding mothers, topical pain relief gels like Volini are generally considered safe due to minimal systemic absorption, but it's advisable to avoid applying them near the breast area to prevent accidental ingestion by the baby.

Can Volini Gel be taken with other medications?

Volini Gel is generally not likely to interact with other medicines taken orally or as an injection, but it's always best to consult your doctor before use, especially if you have pre-existing chronic ailments. It can be used in combination with oral painkillers for severe musculoskeletal pain, but avoid using it with other NSAIDs (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen) without consulting a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Topical salicylates (an ingredient in Volini Gel) may potentially increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin, and menthol has also been reported to interact with warfarin if taken orally.

What precautions should be taken when using Volini Gel?

Volini Gel is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, open wounds, cuts, burns, or irritated skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply the gel under bandages or airtight occlusive dressings, as this can lead to excessive absorption and skin irritation. Wash your hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated. Patients with advanced kidney disease or a history of asthma should consult a doctor before use. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight on the treated area.

What happens if a dose of Volini Gel is missed?

Volini Gel is typically applied when pain is felt. If you are on a scheduled regimen and miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply extra gel or a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this will not provide additional therapeutic effect and may cause severe skin irritation.

How should Volini Gel be stored?

Volini Gel should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Do not freeze the product. Keep it out of the reach of children. Ensure the lid is closed tightly after each use.
