Frequently Asked Questions

What is Lasix Injection used for?

Lasix Injection (furosemide) is a diuretic ("water pill") used to treat fluid retention (edema) due to heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease, or other medical conditions. It is also used to treat high blood pressure in certain situations.

How does Lasix Injection work?

Lasix works by helping your kidneys remove excess salt and water from your body through urine. This helps reduce swelling and makes it easier for your heart to pump.

What is the usual dosage for Lasix Injection?

The dosage of Lasix Injection varies depending on the condition being treated, your age, and your response to therapy. It is typically given by a healthcare professional as an injection into a vein (IV) or muscle (IM). Your doctor will determine the correct dose for you.

What are the possible side effects of Lasix Injection?

Common side effects include increased urination, dehydration, low blood pressure, dizziness, electrolyte imbalances (such as low potassium, sodium, or magnesium), and muscle cramps. Less commonly, it can cause hearing disturbances, especially with high doses or rapid infusions.

Is Lasix Injection safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Lasix should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed and prescribed by your doctor, as it may affect the baby. It can pass into breast milk and may reduce milk production, so consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can Lasix Injection be taken with other medications?

Lasix may interact with other medications, including blood pressure medicines, certain antibiotics, lithium, and medications that affect potassium levels. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medicines and supplements you are taking.

What precautions should be taken when using Lasix Injection?

Monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels regularly. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, gout, diabetes, or are allergic to sulfa drugs. Stand up slowly to avoid dizziness from low blood pressure.

What happens if a dose is missed?

Lasix Injection is usually given in a hospital or clinic setting, so missed doses are unlikely. If you are administering it at home and miss a dose, contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

How should Lasix Injection be stored?

Keep Lasix Injection ampoules at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children, and do not use if the solution is discolored or contains particles.
