It is prescribed for conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), dysmenorrhea (painful periods), kidney or gallstones, muscle pain, migraine headaches, functional bowel disorders, heavy bleeding during periods, renal colic pain, and post-operative abdominal pain and cramps. It works by relaxing smooth muscles and reducing inflammation.

Dosage and Administration: Chymospas Tablet should be taken orally as directed by a doctor. It is typically advised to swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, without crushing or chewing. Taking the medicine with or after meals can help minimize potential stomach discomfort. The daily dose and duration of treatment depend on the severity of the condition and the patient's response.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal discomfort, indigestion, bloating, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, and heartburn. More serious but less common side effects can include increased heart rate, blurred vision, fatigue, and skin rashes. Patients experiencing persistent or severe side effects should consult their doctor.

Precautions: Chymospas Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential harm to the fetus or infant. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase the risk of stomach irritation, gastrointestinal bleeding, drowsiness, and dizziness. Caution is advised for patients with liver, kidney, or heart diseases, asthma, peptic ulcers, porphyria, or bleeding problems. It is not recommended for use in children. Due to potential dizziness or drowsiness, patients should exercise caution when driving or operating machinery.

Storage: Store Chymospas Tablet at room temperature, ideally below 30°C. Keep it away from excess heat, light, and moisture. Ensure the tablet container is tightly closed and keep the medicine out of the reach of children. Use before the expiry date mentioned on the pack.

Frequently asked questions

Here are frequently asked questions about CHYMOSPAS TAB by AGLOWMED LTD.:

What is CHYMOSPAS TAB used for?

CHYMOSPAS TAB is primarily used to manage abdominal pain, cramps, and spasms. It is effective for conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), dysmenorrhoea (painful periods), muscle pain, migraine headaches, functional bowel disorders, heavy bleeding during periods, renal colic pain, and post-operative pain. It also helps alleviate discomfort from bloating and indigestion.

How does CHYMOSPAS TAB work?

This medicine contains two active ingredients: Drotaverine and Mefenamic Acid. Drotaverine is an antispasmodic that helps relax smooth muscles by reducing calcium reuptake within cells. Mefenamic Acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are chemical messengers responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever. Together, these actions relieve pain and muscle spasms.

What is the usual dosage for CHYMOSPAS TAB?

The dosage of CHYMOSPAS TAB should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can vary based on the severity of your condition and how you respond to the medication. It is generally recommended to take the tablet whole with a glass of water, with or after meals to minimize stomach discomfort. Do not crush or chew the tablet, and do not exceed the recommended dose.

What are the possible side effects of CHYMOSPAS TAB?

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal discomfort, indigestion, bloating, flatulence, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, heartburn, rashes, and itching. More serious, but less common, side effects can include vertigo, insomnia, low blood pressure, fast heart rate, sweating, changes in liver enzymes or blood cell counts, blurred vision, shortness of breath, and signs of stomach bleeding. If you experience persistent or severe side effects, consult your doctor.

Is CHYMOSPAS TAB safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

CHYMOSPAS TAB is generally contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, as it may pose potential harm to the fetus. It is also not recommended during breastfeeding, as its components may pass into breast milk and could have adverse effects on the nursing infant. Always consult your doctor for alternative treatment options if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Can CHYMOSPAS TAB be taken with other medications?

CHYMOSPAS TAB can interact with several medications. It may increase the risk of bleeding if taken with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin) or antiplatelet medications (e.g., clopidogrel). Concomitant use with corticosteroids can increase the risk of stomach ulcers. It may also interact with other NSAIDs, immunosuppressants (e.g., cyclosporine), certain blood pressure medications, anti-diabetic medicines, water pills, and certain antibiotics. It is crucial to inform your doctor about all other medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, you are currently taking.

What precautions should be taken while using CHYMOSPAS TAB?

Avoid consuming alcohol while taking CHYMOSPAS TAB as it can increase the risk of stomach irritation, stomach bleeding, drowsiness, and dizziness. If you experience dizziness or sleepiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. Inform your doctor if you have a history of peptic ulcers, bleeding problems, cardiovascular diseases, severe kidney or liver impairment, asthma, or other chronic conditions. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of heart problems and stomach bleeding. It is not recommended for children without a doctor's advice.

What happens if a dose of CHYMOSPAS TAB is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one, as this can increase the risk of side effects.

How should CHYMOSPAS TAB be stored?

CHYMOSPAS TAB should be stored at room temperature, typically below 30°C (or between 10-25°C), away from excess heat, direct light, and moisture. Keep the tablet container tightly closed and ensure it is kept out of the reach of children and pets. Always check the expiry date on the packaging and use the medicine before it expires.
