BRINZOX EYE DROP 5 ML by AJANTA PHARMA LIMITED

Name

  • Brand Name: Brinzox Eye Drops
  • Common Name: Brinzolamide Ophthalmic Suspension

Composition

Brinzox Eye Drops contain:

  • Active Ingredient: Brinzolamide 1% w/v
  • Preservative: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.01% w/v

Uses

Brinzox Eye Drops are prescribed to manage increased intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with:

  • Open-angle glaucoma
  • Ocular hypertension (high pressure inside the eye) By lowering IOP, it helps prevent damage to the optic nerve and potential vision loss.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended dosage is typically one drop in the affected eye or eyes, two to three times a day, or as advised by a physician. Directions for Use:

  • Shake the bottle well before use.
  • Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  • Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze out one drop without touching the tip to the eye or any surface to prevent contamination.
  • Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes and avoid blinking or rubbing.
  • Applying gentle pressure to the inner corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute after instillation can minimize systemic absorption.
  • If using other eye medications, administer them at least 5-15 minutes apart.
  • Contact Lenses: Remove soft contact lenses before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as Benzalkonium Chloride can be absorbed by and discolor lenses.

Frequently asked questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about BRINZOX EYE DROP 5 ML:

What is BRINZOX EYE DROP used for?

BRINZOX EYE DROP is used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. This helps to prevent damage to the optic nerve and potential vision loss.

How does BRINZOX EYE DROP work?

BRINZOX EYE DROP contains Brinzolamide, which is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It works by reducing the production of aqueous humour, the fluid inside the eye, thereby decreasing the pressure within the eye.

What is the usual dosage of BRINZOX EYE DROP?

The typical recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) two or three times a day (morning and night), or as directed by your doctor. It's crucial to follow your doctor's specific instructions.

What are the possible side effects of BRINZOX EYE DROP?

Common side effects may include blurred vision, eye pain, eye irritation, a sensation of a foreign body in the eye, taste disturbance (dysgeusia), dry mouth, headache, and ocular hyperemia (eye redness). Most of these are temporary.

Is BRINZOX EYE DROP safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

BRINZOX EYE DROP is generally not recommended during pregnancy unless your doctor deems it absolutely necessary, as animal studies have shown potential risks to the fetus. Women who could become pregnant are advised to use effective contraception. Similarly, it is generally not recommended for use while breastfeeding due to a lack of sufficient safety data. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can BRINZOX EYE DROP be taken with other medications?

If you are using other eye medications, it is advisable to administer them at least 5 to 15 minutes apart from BRINZOX EYE DROP to prevent dilution or interaction. Concurrent use with other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., dorzolamide, acetazolamide) may increase the risk of systemic side effects. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.

What precautions should be taken while using BRINZOX EYE DROP?

Remove contact lenses before applying the eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, as the preservative (benzalkonium chloride) can be absorbed by soft contact lenses. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience blurred vision after using the drops. Inform your doctor if you have severe kidney problems, liver problems, hyperchloremic acidosis, acute angle-closure glaucoma, or a history of sulfonamide hypersensitivity. This medicine is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Do not stop using the eye drops without consulting your doctor.

What happens if a dose of BRINZOX EYE DROP is missed?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should BRINZOX EYE DROP be stored?

Store BRINZOX EYE DROP in an upright position, below 30°C, and protect it from freezing temperatures. Keep the medicine out of reach of children. Ensure you use the drops before the expiry date indicated on the bottle.
