ANGICAM LT TABLET

Name: Angicam LT Tablet (Brand Name)

Composition: Each film-coated tablet contains Amlodipine besilate equivalent to Amlodipine 5 mg and Losartan Potassium 50 mg.

Uses: ANGICAM LT TABLET is primarily prescribed for the management of mild to moderate hypertension (high blood pressure). It also helps reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy, and can slow the progression of kidney disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. This combination works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, easing the heart's workload and improving blood flow.

Dosage and Administration: ANGICAM LT TABLET should be taken as directed by a doctor, typically once daily. It can be taken with or after a meal, swallowed whole with a glass of water. For optimal results, it is recommended to take it at the same time each day. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, and edema (swelling of ankles or feet). Other possible side effects are sleepiness, taste changes, upset stomach, palpitations, increased potassium levels in blood, breathlessness, and nasal congestion. If side effects persist or worsen, consult a doctor.

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: ANGICAM LT TABLET is not recommended during pregnancy due to potential harm to the unborn baby and should be used with caution during breastfeeding.
  • Alcohol: Avoid or limit alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of dizziness and low blood pressure.
  • Medical Conditions: Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver problems; dose adjustments may be necessary.
  • Drug Interactions: Avoid potassium supplements as they may lead to high blood potassium levels (hyperkalaemia). NSAIDs and grapefruit should also be avoided due to potential interactions.
  • Driving: May cause dizziness or sleepiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Do not stop the medication suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Storage: Store ANGICAM LT TABLET in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Typically, store below 30°C or between 15-25°C.

Frequently asked questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions about ANGICAM LT TABLET (15 TAB):

What is ANGICAM LT TABLET used for?

ANGICAM LT TABLET is primarily used for managing hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. It is a combination medication that can also help reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy (thickened heart muscle). Additionally, it may assist in slowing the progression of kidney disease in individuals with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

How does ANGICAM LT TABLET work?

ANGICAM LT TABLET contains two active ingredients: Losartan (an angiotensin II receptor blocker) and Amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker). Losartan works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict or narrow, thus widening them. Amlodipine functions by relaxing the blood vessels. Together, these ingredients relax and widen blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood, thereby reducing blood pressure.

What is the usual dosage for ANGICAM LT TABLET?

The dosage of ANGICAM LT TABLET depends on your age, the severity of your condition, your medical history, and how you respond to the initial dose. It is crucial to consult your doctor to understand the right dosage and frequency for you. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at a fixed time each day.

What are the possible side effects of ANGICAM LT TABLET?

Common side effects can include headache, dizziness, fatigue, ankle swelling (edema), nausea, abdominal pain, and increased potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalaemia). Some people may also experience sleepiness, flushing, palpitations, upset stomach, or changes in bowel habits. Most side effects are temporary and resolve over time, but if any serious side effects or worsening symptoms occur, consult your doctor.

Is ANGICAM LT TABLET safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

ANGICAM LT TABLET is highly unsafe and contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it can cause damage to the developing fetus. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, discontinue it immediately and consult your doctor. Caution is advised during breastfeeding. While some studies suggest it may be safe if prescribed by a doctor and does not pass into breast milk to harm the baby, it should generally be avoided due to a lack of complete safety information. Discuss with your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

Can ANGICAM LT TABLET be taken with other medications?

Using ANGICAM LT TABLET with certain other medications can lead to interactions. For example, it should be used cautiously with other blood pressure-lowering medicines (which can cause an excessive drop in blood pressure), potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements (which can lead to increased blood potassium levels), and NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen (which may reduce its blood pressure-lowering effect and increase kidney damage risk). Medicines containing lithium should also be used with caution, as Angicam LT can increase lithium levels. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.

What precautions should be taken while taking ANGICAM LT TABLET?

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney problems, heart conditions (like coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, or issues with heart valves and muscles), or low blood pressure before starting this medicine. Avoid consuming alcohol as it may enhance side effects like dizziness and low blood pressure. Since it can cause dizziness or sleepiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. Avoid sudden changes in posture to prevent dizziness, and rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.

What happens if a dose of ANGICAM LT TABLET is missed?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one. Blood pressure medications should be taken regularly to effectively manage blood pressure and prevent complications.

How should ANGICAM LT TABLET be stored?

Store ANGICAM LT TABLET at room temperature, typically between 15-25°C or below 30°C. Keep the medicine in a dry place, shielded from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Ensure it is kept out of the reach of children and pets. Always check the expiration date and use the medicine before it expires.
