Description

FUCIBET CREAM 15 GM

Fucibet Cream is a topical medication used to treat various inflammatory skin conditions that are either infected or at risk of bacterial infection. It is manufactured by SUN PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES LTD.

Composition

Fucibet Cream contains two active ingredients:

  • Fusidic Acid (2%): An antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria causing infections.
  • Betamethasone Valerate (0.1%): A potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching.

Uses

Fucibet Cream is primarily prescribed for the treatment of:

  • Infected eczema.
  • Dermatitis and other inflammatory skin conditions where bacterial infection is present or may occur. It is not suitable for fungal infections, viral infections (e.g., cold sores, chickenpox), rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or acne.

Dosage and Administration

  • Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin area twice daily, typically in the morning and evening.
  • The usual treatment duration is up to two weeks. Prolonged use beyond this period is generally not recommended due to the risk of antibiotic resistance and steroid-related side effects.
  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after applying the cream, unless the cream is for treating the hands.
  • If there is no improvement after 7 days, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Side Effects

Common side effects at the application site may include:

  • Dry skin
  • Redness
  • Skin irritation or rash
  • Itchiness
  • Burning or stinging sensation

Serious but less common side effects can include:

  • Allergic reactions (e.g., severe rash, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing)
  • Thinning of the skin or underlying tissues
  • Stretch marks
  • Visible small veins near the skin surface
  • Adrenal gland suppression (signs include tiredness, depression, anxiety)
  • Blurred vision, glaucoma, or cataracts, especially if used near the eyes or for prolonged periods.

Precautions

  • Do not use Fucibet Cream for more than two weeks continuously.
  • Avoid contact with eyes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with cold water.
  • Do not apply to open wounds, sensitive areas (nostrils, ears, lips, genitals), thin skin, skin ulcers, broken veins, or acne, unless specifically instructed by a doctor.
  • Unless advised by a doctor, do not cover the treated area with bandages or airtight dressings, as this can increase systemic absorption and side effects.
  • Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding. If breastfeeding, avoid applying the cream directly to the breasts.
  • Exercise caution around naked flames after applying the cream as it may contain flammable ingredients.

Storage

  • Store at room temperature (below 30°C), in the original container, protected from moisture, direct sunlight, and heat.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Discard any remaining medication three months after opening the tube.
Frequently asked questions

Fucibet Cream 15 GM is a topical medication that combines an antibiotic and a corticosteroid to treat various inflammatory and infected skin conditions. It is manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd..

What is Fucibet Cream used for?

Fucibet Cream is primarily used to manage inflammatory skin conditions that are infected or at risk of infection. This includes conditions such as infected eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. It is also beneficial for primary and secondary skin infections, and preventing infection in cracked or ulcerated skin.

How does Fucibet Cream work?

Fucibet Cream contains two active ingredients: fusidic acid and betamethasone. Fusidic acid is an antibiotic that stops bacterial growth by interfering with their protein synthesis, which is essential for bacteria to multiply and function. Betamethasone is a medium-strength corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching by suppressing inflammatory mediators and pathways in the body. Together, these components address both the inflammatory and infectious aspects of skin conditions, promoting faster healing.

What is the usual dosage?

A small quantity of Fucibet Cream should be applied to the affected area twice daily until a satisfactory response is obtained. A single course of treatment should not normally exceed two weeks. Always wash and dry your hands before applying the cream, and gently rub a thin layer into the affected skin until fully absorbed. Avoid covering the treated areas with bandages or dressings unless specifically advised by your doctor.

What are the possible side effects?

Common side effects include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site. Other less common side effects can include folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles), skin discoloration, or an allergic rash. Prolonged use can lead to skin thinning, stretch marks, or changes in skin pigmentation. If any side effects worsen or persist, it is important to inform your doctor.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Caution is advised when using Fucibet Cream during pregnancy, and it should only be used if clearly necessary after consulting a doctor. If you are breastfeeding, Fucibet Cream can generally be used, but it should not be applied to the breasts to avoid accidental ingestion by the infant.

Can it be taken with other medications?

Since Fucibet Cream is a topical medication, interactions with systemically administered medicinal products are considered minimal. However, it is always wise to inform your doctor about any other medications you are using, especially other topical treatments, to avoid potential interactions or worsening of conditions.

What precautions should be taken?

Avoid getting Fucibet Cream in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not use the cream for longer than prescribed, typically no more than two weeks, to prevent bacterial resistance and potential side effects from the steroid component. Do not use it on open wounds, thin skin, skin ulcers, broken veins, or acne unless directed by a doctor. It is also not recommended for conditions like rosacea, perioral dermatitis, or fungal/viral skin infections.

What happens if a dose is missed?

If you forget to apply a dose of Fucibet Cream, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply extra cream to make up for a missed dose.

How should it be stored?

Fucibet Cream should be stored at room temperature, not exceeding 30°C, and kept away from excessive heat and direct sunlight. The tube should be kept tightly closed when not in use to prevent drying out. It should also be kept out of sight and reach of children, and not frozen. Once opened, the product should typically be used within 3 months.
