Description
AMROX LS 100 ML by LEEFORD HEALTHCARE LTD.
Name: Amrox LS Syrup.
Composition: Each 5 ml of Amrox LS Syrup contains a combination of active ingredients: Ambroxol Hydrochloride 30 mg, Guaifenesin 50 mg, and Levosalbutamol Sulphate 1 mg.
Uses: Amrox LS Syrup is primarily used to treat cough with mucus, chest congestion, and breathing difficulties associated with various respiratory conditions. It is effective in managing symptoms of bronchial asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The syrup works by thinning and loosening thick mucus, making it easier to cough out, and by relaxing the airway muscles to facilitate smoother breathing. It can also alleviate symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes often linked with respiratory tract allergies.
Dosage and Administration: Amrox LS Syrup should be taken as prescribed by a doctor, who will determine the appropriate dose based on the severity of the condition and the patient's response to treatment. It can be taken with or without food. For adults, a general recommendation is 10 ml three times a day. For children aged two to six, the recommended dose is typically 2.5 ml three times daily, while older children may take 5 ml three times daily, under a doctor's advice. A measuring cup or spoon should be used for accurate dosing, and the bottle should be shaken well before each use.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, dryness of mouth, nose, or throat, headache, dizziness, muscle cramps or weakness, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, increased heart rate, and drowsiness. Serious side effects are rare, but if any persistent or severe symptoms occur, medical advice should be sought.
Precautions:
- Allergy: Do not use if allergic to any ingredients.
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Use with caution and only if prescribed by a doctor, as safety is not fully established.
- Alcohol: Avoid consuming alcohol as it may increase the risk of drowsiness and other side effects.
- Driving & Operating Machinery: May cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is advised.
- Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney problems, heart conditions (e.g., hypertension, heart disease), stomach ulcers, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism.
- Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all other medications being taken, especially beta-blockers, diuretics, cardiac glycosides, and other bronchodilators.
Storage: Store Amrox LS Syrup at room temperature, below 30°C, in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure the bottle is tightly closed when not in use and always keep it out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
Frequently asked questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions about AMROX LS 100 ML by LEEFORD HEALTHCARE LTD., along with their concise answers.
What is AMROX LS 100 ML used for?
AMROX LS 100 ML is a combination medicine primarily used to treat cough associated with mucus, often referred to as a "chesty cough." It helps relieve symptoms of respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and acute respiratory infections. The medicine works to clear mucus, ease breathing, and reduce wheezing and chest congestion.
How does AMROX LS 100 ML work?
AMROX LS 100 ML contains three active ingredients: Levosalbutamol, Ambroxol, and Guaifenesin.
- Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator that relaxes the muscles and widens the airways in the lungs, making it easier to breathe.
- Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent that thins and loosens phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, making it easier to cough out.
- Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases the volume of fluid in the airways and reduces the stickiness of mucus, aiding in its removal.
What is the usual dosage for AMROX LS 100 ML?
AMROX LS is typically available in syrup form. For adults, the usual dosage is 5-10 mL, taken 2-3 times a day. The bottle should be shaken well before use, and a measuring cup should be used for accurate dosing. It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage, and generally, no more than 4 doses should be taken in any 24 hours. For children, the dosage varies based on age, and a doctor should be consulted for specific guidance.
What are the possible side effects of AMROX LS 100 ML?
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, skin rash, tremor, stomach upset, palpitations, and an increased heart rate. Most of these side effects are usually temporary and resolve as your body adjusts to the medication. If any side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
Is AMROX LS 100 ML safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
AMROX LS is generally not recommended or should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on its use in pregnant women. Levosalbutamol may increase the fetal heart rate, and Ambroxol is not recommended during the first trimester. While Ambroxol and Guaifenesin are excreted in small amounts in breast milk, caution is advised as it is unknown if the combination is fully safe for breastfed infants. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking this medicine.
Can AMROX LS 100 ML be taken with other medications?
It is important to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as AMROX LS can interact with certain medicines. It should be used with caution or avoided with beta-blockers, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), tricyclic antidepressants, diuretics, and cardiac glycosides (like digoxin) due to potential interactions and increased risk of side effects. Combining it with other cough suppressants or cold medicines is generally not recommended to avoid excessive dosing.
What precautions should be taken while using AMROX LS 100 ML?
Caution is advised if you have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes (monitor blood sugar levels, as it may increase them), heart conditions (including coronary insufficiency, arrhythmias, or hypertension), hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcers, or a history of fits. Since the medicine can cause dizziness or drowsiness, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how it affects you. It is also recommended to drink plenty of fluids to help loosen mucus and avoid alcohol consumption, as it may intensify side effects like drowsiness. Consult a doctor if your cough persists for more than a week, recurs, or is accompanied by fever, rash, or a persistent headache.
What happens if a dose of AMROX LS 100 ML is missed?
If you miss a dose of AMROX LS, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
How should AMROX LS 100 ML be stored?
AMROX LS 100 ML should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the medicine in its original container, tightly closed, and out of the sight and reach of children. The ideal storage temperature is below 30°C.
