Frequently asked questions

What is MAHACORT DZ 6 used for?

MAHACORT DZ 6 is a corticosteroid primarily used to treat a variety of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. These include allergic conditions, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, inflammatory skin and eye disorders, kidney and blood-related conditions, and to prevent organ rejection after transplant operations. It can also be used in the management of certain cancers.

How does MAHACORT DZ 6 work?

MAHACORT DZ 6 contains deflazacort as its active ingredient. It works by acting as a glucocorticoid, increasing the level of glucocorticoids in the body. This reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of chemical substances that cause inflammation and by modifying the immune system's response to prevent self-damage in autoimmune diseases or during organ transplantation.

What is the usual dosage for MAHACORT DZ 6?

MAHACORT DZ 6 should be taken at the same time every day, as directed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may help avoid stomach upset. The dose of this medicine will be gradually decreased by your doctor to allow your body to adjust before stopping the drug completely. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow it whole with a glass of water.

What are the possible side effects of MAHACORT DZ 6?

Common side effects can include headache, weight gain (especially around the face), nausea, indigestion, irregular periods, muscle weakness, acne, mood changes, increased appetite, frequent urge to urinate, drowsiness, dizziness, skin rash, tremors, nervousness, diarrhea, fast heartbeats, cough, upper respiratory tract infection, abnormal hair growth, obesity, and nasopharyngitis. More serious but less common side effects can include Cushing syndrome. If any side effects bother you or worsen, consult your doctor.

Is MAHACORT DZ 6 safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

MAHACORT DZ 6 is generally not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor. It may be unsafe to use during pregnancy and can pass into breast milk, potentially affecting the infant. Always consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can MAHACORT DZ 6 be taken with other medications?

MAHACORT DZ 6 can interact with several medications. Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including prescribed, non-prescribed, herbal medicines, and dietary supplements. Particular caution is needed with antacids (maintain at least a two-hour gap), water pills, certain painkillers (e.g., carbamazepine), immunosuppressants (e.g., ciclosporin), blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), anti-tuberculosis medicines (e.g., rifampicin, rifabutin), diabetes medications, anti-seizure medicines (e.g., phenobarbitone, phenytoin, primidone), anti-fungal medications (e.g., ketoconazole), and oral contraceptives. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice as it may increase the drug's levels and risk of side effects.

What precautions should be taken while using MAHACORT DZ 6?

Inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, liver or kidney problems, peptic ulcers, epilepsy, osteoporosis, glaucoma, mental health problems, infections (especially tuberculosis or herpes simplex virus in the eye), or a tumor of the adrenal gland tissue (pheochromocytoma). Avoid close contact with people who are sick or have contagious diseases. Do not take live vaccines while on this medication and for at least 4-6 weeks after. Do not stop taking MAHACORT DZ 6 suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation can lead to withdrawal symptoms. While interaction with alcohol is unknown, it's advisable to consult your doctor if you consume alcohol regularly.

What happens if a dose of MAHACORT DZ 6 is missed?

If you miss a dose of MAHACORT DZ 6, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it's almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.
