Frequently asked questions
What is Gabapax Ointment used for?
Gabapax Ointment is primarily used to treat various types of neuropathic pain, which is pain caused by nerve damage. This includes conditions such as pain due to diabetes (diabetic peripheral neuropathy), shingles (postherpetic neuralgia), and spinal cord injury. It can also help alleviate muscle and joint pain, swelling, and redness.
How does Gabapax Ointment work?
Gabapax Ointment contains a combination of active ingredients that work synergistically to relieve pain. Gabapentin helps reduce pain transmission in damaged nerves. Capsaicin works by desensitizing local pain nerves. Ketoprofen blocks the release of chemical messengers that cause pain and inflammation. Lidocaine provides a local numbing effect. Methyl Salicylate (or Salicylic Acid) creates a cooling and then warming sensation on the skin, which interferes with pain signal transmission.
What is the usual dosage for Gabapax Ointment?
Gabapax Ointment is for external use only. It should be applied as a thin layer to the clean, dry affected area and gently massaged until fully absorbed. The typical application is 3-4 times a day, or precisely as advised by your doctor regarding both dose and duration.
What are the possible side effects of Gabapax Ointment?
Common side effects at the application site may include skin irritation, redness (erythema), itching (pruritis), and a burning sensation. These reactions are usually temporary and tend to resolve on their own. If you experience severe side effects such as a severe rash, significant swelling, or blistering, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.
Is Gabapax Ointment safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is crucial to consult your doctor before using Gabapax Ointment. While systemic absorption is generally low, some animal studies have shown harmful effects on a developing baby, and information regarding its use during breastfeeding is limited. Your doctor will assess the potential benefits against any risks.
Can Gabapax Ointment be taken with other medications?
Due to its external application, the systemic absorption of Gabapax Ointment is very low, meaning it is unlikely to have major interactions with oral medications. However, it is always advisable to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently using, especially other topical creams or ointments, as they could potentially alter absorption or effectiveness.
What precautions should be taken when using Gabapax Ointment?
Use Gabapax Ointment for external application only and avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, and nose. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly. Do not apply the ointment to wounds or damaged skin, and do not cover the treated area with a bandage. Always wash your hands thoroughly after applying the ointment, unless your hands are the area being treated. Avoid using on the face or other sensitive areas unless specifically directed by your doctor. Do not use if you have a known allergy to any of its ingredients.
What happens if a dose of Gabapax Ointment is missed?
If you forget to apply a dose of Gabapax Ointment, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.
How should Gabapax Ointment be stored?
Store Gabapax Ointment in its original container, away from the reach of children and pets. It should be kept at a controlled room temperature, typically between 15°C and 30°C. Do not use the ointment past its expiry date.
