Frequently asked questions
What is ESOFINE LS CAPSULE used for?
ESOFINE LS CAPSULE is primarily used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition where stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe, causing symptoms such as heartburn, acidity, stomach irritation, and pain. It can also be used to manage peptic ulcers and general indigestion.
How does ESOFINE LS CAPSULE work?
ESOFINE LS CAPSULE is a combination of two active ingredients: Esomeprazole and Levosulpiride. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach by blocking an enzyme system responsible for acid secretion. Levosulpiride is a prokinetic agent that increases the movement of the stomach and intestines and strengthens the valve between the esophagus and stomach, which helps prevent the backflow of food and acid.
What is the usual dosage for ESOFINE LS CAPSULE?
ESOFINE LS CAPSULE should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is typically taken once daily, preferably one hour before a meal, usually in the morning. The capsule should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and not chewed or crushed. Your doctor will determine the correct dosage and duration based on your condition.
What are the possible side effects of ESOFINE LS CAPSULE?
Common side effects may include headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and dizziness. If these side effects persist or worsen, it's advisable to consult your doctor. In rare cases, more serious side effects like severe allergic reactions or liver problems can occur. Long-term use of this medicine may also increase the risk of bone fractures.
Is ESOFINE LS CAPSULE safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
ESOFINE LS CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to a lack of established safety and effectiveness. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, you should consult your doctor to discuss the potential risks and benefits before taking this medicine.
Can ESOFINE LS CAPSULE be taken with other medications?
ESOFINE LS CAPSULE can interact with several other medications. It's crucial to inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal preparations you are taking. Significant interactions can occur with certain painkillers, anti-HIV medications (like nelfinavir, which should be avoided), blood thinners, anti-fungal medicines, anti-cancer drugs, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, anti-convulsants, medications for heart problems (like digoxin), and immunosuppressants. Antacids and sucralfate should be taken at least two hours apart from ESOFINE LS CAPSULE.
What precautions should be taken while taking ESOFINE LS CAPSULE?
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have allergies to its components, severe liver or kidney problems, or certain conditions like epilepsy, bipolar disorder, pheochromocytoma, or breast cancer. You should also inform your doctor if you experience unexplained weight loss, blood in vomit or stools, or black stools. Avoid alcohol consumption as it can worsen symptoms and increase stomach acid production. ESOFINE LS CAPSULE may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience these effects. Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, so ensure adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D.
What happens if a dose of ESOFINE LS CAPSULE is missed?
If you miss a dose of ESOFINE LS CAPSULE, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
How should ESOFINE LS CAPSULE be stored?
ESOFINE LS CAPSULE should be stored in a cool, dry place, ideally at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Keep the medicine away from direct sunlight and moisture. Always ensure it is kept out of the reach of children and used before its expiry date.
